I was thinking of using this heater/ furnace location to install an AC. it has a vent for the exhaust of the heater/furnace. Would it work. I can find a small enough unit to go in the space provided. Attachments:

As long as it has plenty of room for airflow around the unit, and you can drain the condensation without having water leak out all over the place, it should work. If and when I install an AC it will be in the spot where the icebox used to be. I removed the leaky bugger shortly after I bought my '64 compact. I removed the range and put a dorm fridge in it's place.

Well since the heater/furnace does not work I figured that would be the best place, and since it already has the exhaust vent already there why not. I was also thinking about under the furthest back dinette seat since there is a bagagge door there that I can prop open and have the air come out from the side of the seat.

will it work? yes. is it the best location? probably not. several on here have found from trial and error that location really makes a difference, it seems to work best if the the AC can push the cool air in a straight line from one end to the other. even with adding insulation and such these campers are a challenge to cool in high heat.
and make sure you have a good metal drip pan and drain installed, even if you use one of the newer no drain AC units, I have one, and have noticed that the fan hits the droplets as it pulls them through the heat exchanger and splashes small droplets outside and up, pretty much all around it. it is not much, but after a few hours those droplets add up.

did you put it there yet? i did mine there (in a different brand camper) and it works, just need a good fan to move the cold air up. we used ours for 5 days in direct sun and 92 degree temps and it was comfortable

In our Compact the PO had replaced the original fridge with a small dorm fridge and put some decorative mesh to fill the empty space above. I installed the AC in that spot but I'm rethinking it. 1st I'll try the fan idea to blow it to the back of the camper. The unit alone doesn't get the air back there at all (except after the sun goes down).

i went to walmart and bought a small squirrell cage type fan that moves serious air and i sit it on a stand so it's air intake is in line with the air condioners cold air out vents and it made all the difference.

You should try using a portable a/c unit such as this one. I installed mine under the sink and it works great! You can see more about it under the heading/title: Best air conditioning set up yet! and Best a/c set up yet Part 2! Attachments:

To get the proper cooling this place is not suitable. I would you suggest that try to make wall unit cabinet to fit the AC. But if you not have a enough space then you will use your heater and furnace place.
