So i took the marker lights off the Shasta this weekend and got them all cleaned up and painted. The previous owner had gobbed A LOT of butyl tape or putty or something in between the backing plate and the lens to form a seal. Effective but ugly. So i cleaned all that off but now when i go to put the lens back on it doesn't quite fit, the bulb sticks out just far enough that the lens doesn't seat flush down onto the backing plate. Maybe that's Theo Bargman's way of telling me that i've got to have some type of gasket in there. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what to use as a gasket to go between the lens and the backing plate? Attachments:

The lights originally had a cork gasket. You may be able to purchase some cork gasket material from a auto parts store and cut your own. Pictured is one of the original styles. Jim Attachments:

Thanks Jim. I picked up a sheet or cork this morning. I'm going to cut it out and stick it to the backer plate like in your photo. That should work well. Thanks again.

Hey folks, All of my backing plates have transformed into rusty little nuggets. so I have to refurbish all of my marker lights. I have all of the original bargman lenses, will they fit onto the VTS backing plates?

The VTS lights are close to the Bargmans but not a perfect match. The VTS marker light uses a slightly taller lens with a much smaller mounting screw. I would use all new matched components and save your original lenses for the future.

Hello. My name is Sean and I bought a '63 or '64 Shasta 1500 the other day. The marker lights are newer rectangular shaped lights. Does anyone know if the older style marker lights are available and from whom? I appreciate any help. Thank you.

concerning the gasket behind the marker light lenses, I bought some pretty cheap teardrops for condoluminum, and the fit-up isn't real good. water can get in, but it also comes right out. kinda like an air dry thing, they seem to be fine, and never fill with water. I'm not so sure it is necessary to seal them. Just be sure to seal them from the skin, and always make sure of that whole ground conduction thing. I normally restore antique wooden boats, and there are many examples in that industry of them doing exactly that. to the point of putting drains in some housings just for that purpose.
