I just acquired my trailer and of course the door lock is broken. From reading this forum it looks like these locks are a major pain, and that even a new one is going to be prone to break due to quality issues. Any good alternative for just replacing the lock with another type and brand. I have to rebuild the whole door frame anyway and was thinking I would have a nice looking plate laser cut to cover the existing opening and then I would refit a new lock. I like original but I'm open to alternatives if it improves something.

The Bargman L100 and L200 are readily available. They're round knobs in a square backplate so you'd have to have a plate to cover the existing opening. If you're rebuilding, shouldn't be an issue. I had a broken L-66 on a trailer and rebuilt the door to take a 100.

My lock is no longer a problem . I found two , new in the box , tucked away on the bottom shelf in a corner at an RV dealer and am now the owner of both of them ; talk about luck.
