Could anyone who has done it tell me how to bend the j rail to the tight radius at the top of a 65 Compact without deforming it?
Can you use heat to soften the aluminum?
My current rail is deformed at the sharp bends which I suspect caused it to leak and may have caused all the corner framing to rot.

I know this old but knowbody replyed.Yes you can heat it but you will need Oxygen Acetylene You will need to set the torch rich to blacken the Aluminum. Then you will set the torch to a blue flame. And then heat the aluminum up untell the black burns off.

I would be tempted to try cutting two pieces of wood to the proper inside and outside curves and then squeeze them together with the rail between them (oversimplification, I know). The stuff seems flexible enough already, it's a matter of getting a constant bend with equal pressure along the curve, like with copper pipe.

You're welcome. It's so much easier than typing out an explanation LOL..
