I loaned an old utility trailer to a friend who brought it back and mentioned the right light didn't work for turn/brake. Taillight worked. I thought it was weird as I always check when I use it and had had no problems. I hook my truck up to test it, works fine. I double check. I check my truck with an LED tester. All checks out.
I send him a text saying the trouble must be his truck. He replies that he towed another trailer before and after without issue. So I try my wife's truck on the trailer. Still works. Double check - NOT working. What the heck? I test my wife's truck with the tester, all is fine there.
I am at a loss, so I hook my truck back up. Trailer light remains out! Ok, so not the trucks, trailer problem. I wiggle wires check connections, take the lens off and try a separate ground to the bulb, but light remains out. While I am bewildered looking at the old utility trailer I give it a half hearted kick. The light flickers, then goes out! I check ALL the wire connections again, nothing. Then I, ever so gently, tap the bulb. Because it was now dark out I can see an ever so slight glow/flicker at one end of one filament. The filament of the bulb had broken but was occassionally resting in the right spot making connection and working!!
Just thought I would share my story in case it helps someone else jump to changing the bulb to eliminate the easy thing first. I really didn't think it was the bulb due to the fact that it was working for me.
The freaky thing is I had a bulb out on the Shasta a week before that was not intermittently working, just stopped working suddenly, but had the same glow/flicker when tapping the bulb only a week earlier. What a coincidence!
