I am so sorry to hear that paigenmarc about Marc. I know how hard you have been working on your trailer and the set backs you have had. I hope his recovery is speedy and his ankle will be as good as new.

Spring finally arrived on cape cod, so I removed the dinette windows, front window unit, and front skin on Charlie, our 61 SC.
Lots of painted-in screws (someone took house paint to it at one point.) I used a dead-blow hammer to start each screw by hand and it helped. Only stripped about 15 (!) Vicegrips took care of the rest.
Rot was not as bad as I feared. The curbing was the most damaged. Got out my pocket screw jig and reframed the bottoms of the dinette windows. What a great tool for this job!
Hope to continue tomorrow. Planning to add some more framing to better support my front gaucho to dinette conversion, and hoping to beef up/replace the curved framing in the front corners.

Got the Dinette Seat cabinets finished today. I started them two weeks ago when I got sick. Still not 100% but I was about ready to die of boredom... Now it's back to finishing up the Shellac throughout and then the new tile floor. The left one will get a fresh water tank so I did not put a sliding panel in that one. I also added framing to the middle that the stock trailer lacked.

Well, with the good weather I finally got back on mine, exterior work mainly. Resealed the J strip on my 62 Compact , installed new safety chains and all the trailer lites are now functioning, with the new tires we can now tow this baby. Next weekend it's back to the exterior reseal job, I better go out and take a picture. Radioguy

Cabinet Doors..... Well at least it's easier than sanding the ceiling.... I go 80 grit, then 120, then shellac. Total of 5 coats. Two amber and 3 clear with light sanding using 220 inbetween coats.

I striped the paint from the aluminum siding. It comes off fairly easy. Then sand with 400 and 600. What a difference that makes to remove all the paint for new paint. Bang out any dents and BB holes from kids trying to penetrate the siding.

Those things really make the framing go easy don't they? I really like that aluminum trim along the bottom. That's really well protected now.

That is one of the weak spots on these trailers. I am going to wrap it in tyvek paper prior to metal siding.

I've been sewing the "lipstick" curtains. Placing the windows in the box he made to help me clean and polish them (1 done, 7 to go) on a chair. I am best questimating the length from measurements and photos of how they hung previously. Decided to go with Tab tops that can be adjusted when I sew on the buttons. Sewing on all those buttons wan't something I thought about though. I may go with the 2 smaller white ones to coordinate with the polka dots. Use your imagination a bit and you'll see the theme of the Loon's Nest with the black and white stripes and polka dots. The back is lined in the thin stripes of the tabs. Attachments:

I finally got the vin# on my '63 Airflyte. Had to call the North Carolina DMV, and use the expired tag from the p.o. to get the vin. I was surprised they gave it to me over the phone. I looked everywhere, but could not find it.(I bought her at a storage facility as abandoned property, so I don't have the title). Now I have to get her inspected, and have my insurance company write a bond on her. Then I get to have fun at the DMV to get the tag and start the title search. Finally decided on her name, RiverSong. I'm working on cleaning her out, then starting on curtains.

I spent all day cleaning the floors of our 74 XL 2000. I ended up going to the dollar store and getting a denture brush, which worked wonderful in all the corners. The mice had used it as an outhouse since 1977!! Found more mouse nests in seats portions of our dinette. Got that all cleaned. One nest was over a wheel well and they had used the insulation over the well to build the nest. So hubby will be replacing the insulation and doing something with that rust. I had already removed the mouse infested drawers, removed the nasty contact paper and used a bleach solution in my steamer to sanitize each drawer. My husband painted each drawer with several coats of kilz (all but front portion of the drawer) and then painted almond semi gloss. The look great and will now be sealed from all the mouse filth. I opened up the little door under the tub and was cleaning the flooring under there. I noticed something was loose in there. I fished out a 40+ year old electric charcoal starter! Still works. What possessed my brother in laws dad to put it under the tub, I will never know! It has been beautiful here and we have been able to remove the tarp and open up all the windows, which, along with getting all that mouse stuff, has certainly improved the smell!!! Taking the upholstery fabric to the place making our cushions all the way down to new foam, for us, on the way to work in the am. Hubby will be able to start checking out all the systems soon. He still has to kilz and paint all the cabinets, drawers, shelves, etc, we were unable to remove. Then the fun begins on the air, furnace, electrical system, holding tanks, pumps, stove, commode, shower, water heater, refrigerator, etc!!

Anyone remember this pile of debris? The new skin is coming next week so it’s time to rebuild the door. The good news was, it was rotted enough to come apart easy. All the trim pieces are in good shape and will be cleaned up and polished.

I've been doing coats of shellac. All the drawers and doors got a total of 6 coats. Working on finishing up the inside of the trailer paneling now and will be ready for the new tile floor on Monday.

So jealous watching everyone's progress. Marc can't put any weight at all on his ankle for at least 4 weeks, then it will be a while after that before he will be able to do much of anything Living vicariously though you guys. Keep the posts coming!
