Well after a great summer of camping in our Shasta, and sitting looking at the rain here in Seattle all winter I've started thinking about what I want to get done next on the trailer. I was wondering has anyone disassembled a door and rebuilt the wood framing inside? The door has seen better days and I was going to try to get the Bargman L-66 working a little smoother and re-keyed so why not do the whole door I supose. I passed on the chance to buy a new door a year ago and am now kicking myself. By the way how is everyone? I haven't been to the site in a while. It's busy with two kids under five and trying to train for a marathon, but I've missed the great discussions at this site. As always any and all help is appreciated!

Thanks schweetcruisers! I hope I can find a new door handle. If not I'll make due with the one I have, but a new one would look great. Did you use the existing skin on the exterior?

I redid the all skin on the trailer, being from Colorado, my trailer was peppered with Hail damage, and I slightly modified it, the trailer was a Astrodome but I cut the dome off and to make it a Airflyte! I replaced all the aluminum trim around the door and opening. I was also able to find a NOS L-66 from fellow member Montanablue, he may still have one or two.

I also did a rebuild on my door and agree with schweet is was one of the easiest thing I've done. Good luck finding a bargman 66, I had the thin handle easy to fine. Also on my blog aguadream.blogspot.com/2012/07/doors.htm

The Bargman 66 is on EBay right now, along with replacement locks WITH KEYS. I paid around 16$ for a new lock & key, but you have to drill out the old lock from the existing Bargman handle.

Gently take it apart by using a very small cat's paw that you can get anywhere. Twisty nail by twisty nail. Be careful not to hurt the exterior metal frame. Then gently remove the metal skin then remove the wooden panel. Now build a new frame using a pocket hole jig, put the skin back on, then a new birch panel.
Now clean up the metal frame and put it all back together.

Thanks to all for responding! I think this should be a pretty easy fix, but every time I say that it's the kiss of death. If I think it'll take 3 hours it's 6. LOL!
