Pretty canned ham! Love the wheel well shape... That's something that everyone mentions. When I have taken this trailer to a rally it amazes me all the attention it gets. Being that it was a raw trailer with no real restoration. All original. You should see the upholstery. It has a western theme with horses heads, cowboy hats, saddles and guns all embossed into the naugahide. No tears or holes. The seats were losing the thread so I had them resewn is all. Very comfy.

Hey wait - I thought you sold the Westerner. Are you doing it for someone else? My Siesta had that same upholstery, but it was falling apart. I had the upholsterer use some of the material to make the triangles on the new ones, but now that the cats tore them up, I'm not sure what I'm going to do You know I love this trailer. It looks a lot like my little Siesta I think.

What a cutie!! I have a question for ya.... It doesn't look like you have a awning rail on this one am I correct? My 55 Bellwood doesn't have an awning rail and so I've just clipped my little overnight on there. You can see what I am referring to here: littlevintagetrailer.com/2012/07/how-to-add-an-awning-on-a-trailer-with-no-awning-rail/If I wanted to put an awning rail on there I would have to remove all the existing J-rail on that side correct? and then when I put the length of awning rail I want, just add more J-rail to the left and right side curves?

We just finished putting new J rail on ours, and we replaced the awning rail. We put it on first - centered it where we wanted it - and then added regular J rail to the sides. The awning rail seemed to be a lot more rigid and hard to bend than the regular J rail. Our original awning rail was skewed way to the back - maybe to cover the back window? But we centered it in the middle. We just thought it would look better.

The Awning Rail goes on top.Bends around and sticks out the edge a bit.The screws goe down into the top of the walls/ceiling. It's a terrible way to do it because all the screws came loose and water got into the screw holes and its on top so no one noticed. I took it off and filled the holes with JB Weld.

Kel, you can add an awning rail. It takes cutting the J rail, removing a section and installing the awning rail. I'm not sure I would do it on a Bellwood. Mine has wonderful 1" J rail; very impressive quality. I added an awning rail to Birdie after the fact, and have pictures if you email me.
Mobil, my 53 Hanson had the awning rail on the roof as well. You're saying you filled the holes and added the awning piece in place of the J rail? Do you think the JB weld will hold with all the vibration of the road?

I did this when I first got it 5 years ago and it has held very well. This is the camper I have used the most and it's been on many dirt roads. Drug it all the way up to the central coast and back last year on a 1200 mile trip. I never did add an awning rail though. I go a lot of places where it gets windy. Never really did go for awnings much.
It's easy enough to add an Awning Rail to the side of a trailer but you want to make sure that the curb behind the skin is not rotten I would pull a few screws from the J Rail and see what they look like. If they are all rusty and icky it might not be a good idea to add a Awning rail until a rebuild of the curb happens.

Thanks for the roof info, Mobil.
The awning rail I added was on a new restoration, buyer requested it. Very easy with new wood. I will probably add the awning section to all future builds....
