Okay, so we finally went to the tax office to get our trailer title transferred and get our Texas plates. We were a bit nervous because the title says it is a 2010 homemade trailer and also because a "new" Colorado VIN had been issued to the trailer at some point apparently because the original VIN couldn't be found on the trailer. (We have since located the original VIN on the tongue). Anyhoo, none of this caused us problems. However, they almost didn't issue us a title because the trailer didn't weigh enough, at least by our weight guestimate. I was not happy about that because I didn't want to try and sell it later with only a bill of sale. The lady at the tax office was kind enough to "bump up" the weight so that she could issue us a title. I thought that was pretty understanding of her. Once the title is in our name, we can go back and try to get the title corrected to say a 1957 Siesta and use the original VIN. We'll save that for another day.
