I may be mistaken, but this may be the fastest ANY thread has ever hit PAGE THREE!
Hamlet will now place his tail(light) between his tires and slink off into oblivion.

I like the idea of a glamping section, but I'll be honest... some of the hard core glamping just makes me scratch my head. Maybe the section will help me understand! I GET wanting a little elegance and comfort. Me, too! That's what having a camper is about, IMO, whether it's vintage or not. I also GET wanting some conveniences. While TV is not something I'm personally interested in while camping, I do get it. I understand why people would want a microwave, etc. etc. What I don't get is living room furniture being hauled around for use outside; vintage clothing set up on dress mannequins. It just seems like a headache... not only the hauling and setting up, but I have to wonder how relaxing it can be to worry about your adored, adorable vintage and/or retro items getting rained on and ruined. That, I just don't get! Mind you, the set ups are darling to see, but I just can't wrap my head around wanting to worry about the weather all the time, and wanting to haul around so much that doesn't (seem to) add to the camping experience. Table cloths? Yes. Fainting couch? No. Maybe what I need is more exposure via a glamping sections so someone can explain it to me, hahaha.

I`m with you Harriet 1400. We do have a flatscreen which we can watch movies on.(incase it rains and we can`t fish or whatever). We do have ac as we are in our 50`s and live in AL. We do have a microwave that we`ve never used . I`m all about colors matching, so I do like our folding chairs, table and coolers to match the camper. We do have awning lights as I got tired of bruised shins when returning to the camper after dark. Other than that we travel as light as possible when camping. On the other hand, we do show Mr Sam at surrounding car shows. For the car shows we have a few items that we display on our exterior table, patriotic dishes and serving ware, cola cooler and glasses and an enamel wash stand with bowl, pitcher and shaving mug. It isn`t cluttered and nothing is elegant, just things that match the patriotic theme. I`m personally NOT the glamping type but thought a thread about glamping would be fun. I`m also not sure how far one has to go for it to be considered glamping. I`m thinking that everyone has a different perspective as to what glamping and comfort camping is

Now Hamlet can get behind comfort camping. A nice bed with down comforter, the ability to cook out of the rain and wind, potty room with hot shower. AAAHHHH. I guess it's all in what you're used to. I remember reading about British "safari" treks into Africa. China, silver, candlelight. And even had a good laugh once at the cover of Martha Stewart Living that touted her fly fishing abilities. She said in the accompanying article that there's nothing like a trout cooked in a cast iron skillet over a campfire. Then I looked at the cover picture again. There she was with her cute LITTLE backpack... followed by an entire horse train. Now THAT'S glamping.

Hamlet, down comforter, hot shower! Surely in the vintage camping world that would be considered "Low end" Glamping? ?? Just yanking your chain I think you and I both would be considered "comfort campers" IMO.

Hamlet believes that elegant simplicity is simply elegant... and is a proud comfort camper! (Besides, a down comforter takes up less space than two sleeping bags or blankets and sheets, and the hot shower, well, there's no excuse for that.)

That's my 54 Westerner. Made by Westfield Corp in CA. The owner's grandson is local here and shows up at some of the rallies. I found this one near Death Valley in an old mining camp that was all but abandoned. I was able to hunt down the owner but it took a year. Paid him $300 and got the title. Went back out there and put new tires and bearings on her and got the lights working and towed her home. She's in the paint shop right now. Then she goes to a new home. I've owned her for about 6 years now. Charles Manson actually spent quite a few hot afternoons sitting in this trailer drinking beers with the owner while his girls ran around picking the pockets of the miners in the then populated ghost town of Ballarat. They all knew that Charlie was a little bit on the strange side but desert people don't tend to ask too many questions and always keep a gun in their belt or boot. They were no fools and they were not at all surprised when the big bust at Barkers Ranch happened just a few miles away. I even found two complete newspapers from November 1970 about the trial with photos on the front page in this trailer. Still have those news papers. Here it is where and how I found it...

There is nothing more alluring than a trailer with a past. We didn't know anything about Hamlet, so I've had to make up my own stories about him. Still haven't found an illustrator, though. Gave up on doctored photos, they still looked too clinical. What I need is a cartoonist. Anyone out there want to take a shot?
And, yes, it would look a little better with a beer - or maybe AFTER a beer. And as far as that being your dinner, I've tasted some of those cutesy "gourmet" dog treats. They're not half bad. Not sweet, maybe, no worse than matzoh.

Dog treats are probably better for you than any Fast Food... I've had my share of dog treats. Had dogs all my life.

Some glamp it with photo shoots and fainting couches, while others glamp with dog biscuits and white wine. We are working with a wide glamping threshold, folks. ;D

59 Pink Deluxe - you cook in your Princess oven? I would love to cook in mine someday, but I've heard it may not be safe. Are they safe? Anyone?

Holy cr*p, Mobiltec! Charles Manson? Geez. Yep, the one and only. I've been able to validate that with live human witnesses. Many of them. Matter of fact, those people are the ones who found the owner for me. Not a real trusting bunch so it took a while to gain everyone's confidence and once I opened that door, all of Death Valley history was opened up to me. I've been studying the area for 8 years now and have only scratched the surface. You can see some of the history here... www.cannedhamtrailers.com/exploringpages.htm

All dressed up for a local photo shoot! It was fun. That is what I consider true "glamping", its simple, in good taste and very elegant. I really like it. I asked Bo what he thought and he said, He could live with it.....if it came with an endless supply of pie . MEN!

paigenmarc- We cook in Hamlet's oven. I don't do pies (at home or camping), but most everything else: chicken, roast, meatloaf, cookies, brownies. You ALWAYS have to be careful with gas, or with electricity, or with an open campfire. That being said, my best tool for the oven is a decent oven thermometer.

Now I have a problem. I'm not really a "glamper" cause Callie isn't glamorous or fancy. We are more "hippy crazy". Need a new term for my decorating style. Suggestions? What I should ask, any nice suggestions?

Actually the curtain material in the pic above was gonna be awning fabric but I liked it for better for curtains. I have a solid red awning for now. I would SO do a Laugh-In awning if I could find the fabric. So awesome ;D

In my book, it's more a feeling than a style. Anytime you have a lot of period or theme items, regardless of the state of the trailer, you're glamping. You have a wonderful theme going and it suits the trailer perfectly.

An awning made from material with all different colored flowers. Kinda like the old Laugh In background.... OMG I have to post this pic of me in 7th grade in 1969 (yup, I'm old) wearing a dress I made from Laugh-In look fabric. I really loved that mini-dress, although I got in trouble several times for it being too short and had to add more fabric to the bottom. Anyone remember the days of having to have the length of your dress/skirt measured by how high above the knee it was? 3" was the limit at my school. Had to kneel on the ground. Ruler touching the ground, up 3" or go home and change. I went home many times ;D Pants not allowed, panty hose only allowed on Fridays. That was California public school. My how times have changed! Wish I could find this fabric now, it had kind of sheen to it. A photo of me and my brothers in front of our tiny trailer in 1967 will be in the next Vintage Camper Trailers magazine in the "Before They Were Vintage" section. LOL, I'm so vintage, I think there should be a section called "Camping People: Before They Were Vintage" Sorry for hijacking the thread
