Difficult to read, on side of "V" ... trying to date this Shasta Trailer. From other threads, and from the plate mounted beside the door that has an address in Van Nuys, CA ... I'm guessing the C = California .. then the 4 means 1954 ? We thought it a '56 when purchased.
Anyone able to help on this?
Thanks!

C is California I believe, and that indicates the plant of origin. The numbers however were assigned sequentially and there is not a date reference within the VIN numbers. I only know this because I have watched Ross put together his database, he can tell you more about the date from the VIN because he has the accumulated data.

Thanks, Chris! ... will look forward to the 'database' info when/if available.

Chris is correct about the Vin#.
Based on the Vin#'s you do have 1955 Model 1500. It was probably built in the early part of 1955. If the Title states 1956, it probably wasn't sold until then. I am guessing that you have a 1500, because during the years of 1954 through 1957, the 1500 was the model of choice to produce for that California plant.
Can you post a picture of the Vin Plate on your Shasta? I would like to have have the correct number for the database.
Thanks, Ross

Thanks very much. As to the VIN, I will use some more paint thinner/remover tomorrow to see if I can get a better view of the last digit. There appears to be three coats of paint on the "V" . . . so it's been a bit of a challenge. Not sure how to post a photo ... tried to 'embed' as a copy & paste, but that didn't work. Advice appreciated. Thanks.

To add a picture, click on the "Add Attachment" button in the right corner of the Reply and upload from your computer. Once you have added the file to your post, you can not "PREVIEW" the post, because it will remove your photo. Just click "Create Post" and you will be all set.

I have removed more paint, and taken a photo. Unable to find anywhere on this page for "attachment" - would like to post a photo as requested, just can't find ANYwhere on the page there is an 'attach' location.
In any case, the number is C4163
Does this in any way change the vintage? We were 'sold' it as a 1956. From a previous reply were told it was most likely a 1955, model 1500.
I have photos of the unit, including the Shasta, (street address) Van Nuys, CA plate at the doorway ... the tongue where the ID number is, etc ... just having trouble with the forum to post photos.
Further help is most appreciated. Maybe I have to start a new thread to add a photo???

Photos are a sore subject on the forum right now, best bet is Flickr or Photobucket, or some other hosting site. Would love to see it too. I don't think the 2-digit difference would change much but, there is a chance it may have been on the fence for year of production. It has been found that some were manufactured late in a given year, and titled in the next year if they were sold past the beginning of the following year.
