I keep dreaming about my fantasy camper: A early compact that was not used much or abused. One that was maintained, original and kept sheltered.
Do these exist? Has anyone found a gem like this?
I want this for myself as a playhouse.
Every camper I see was used up and left out in the elements to rot.
Just wondering if I'm seeking something that doesn't exist.
TIA Anne

Way out in the country somewhere, there is a barn with your dream trailer in it. All you have to do is find it because it won't show up on Craigs list until the original owner dies and the kids sell everything off for what ever they can get. What you need to do is find it before the original owner dies.

Mobiltec has that sh*t right. I was lucky enough to see a unrestored Airflyte about three years ago, that had lived Ina covered area it's whole life. It was something to see. I saw it at a vintage rally at Misty River in TN. Far and few between I would say.

Thanks, maybe there are a few good ones left. I did look at a creampuff last year that was found by a dealer. It wasn't for sale, sigh.

I hate to be the black rain cloud on your parade but if you do find one, all the seals are going to be dried out. So you'll have to reseal all the windows, the seam under the J rail where the walls meet the roof. Just sayin!

A pristine canned ham Compact??? Wow, we missed that one! There is certainly at least one pristine one out there across this vast country. Just be aware that a pristine one will probably come with a five figure price tag, and will STILL need new tires, bearings repacked, electric repaired, possibly plumbing repaired, and the j/awning rail and around the windows will need to be pulled and re-butyl taped. If you do it yourself, parts (including tires) will set you back somewhere north of $250 (add another several hundred for whitewalls), and if you have someone else do it all for you, double the cost. We don't want to put you off your quest, so good luck on your search and post pics when you find it. Good luck!

Looks like a bunch of us were on that at the same time! (Three heads are better than one.)

I tell everyone to reseal every 10 years whether you need it or not. Sooner in some climates and environments. New paint is usually a must also. But the interior.. Oh man the interior. All original and new looking. I've seen em. Dreamed about em. Never had one. Worked on one once. All she needed was a re-seal, paint job and a 12vdc system.

The hardest piece of this "puzzle" is the fact that you won't find it.
It will find you.
Out of nowhere and when you least expect it. It seems like the harder you look and search, the more they hide. The "good" ones that come up in your searching will always have flaws that will stick out like a sore thumb if you look past your own starry eyes. But then there is that "perfect" one. It is in hiding...waiting until you are totally preoccupied with something else, or your pocketbook just got emptied out on some unexpected turn of events.
That is the nature, as well as the fun, of the "hunt". It is what keeps me looking and scouring, even though realistically my plate is as full as I could ever manage. Well, that, plus knowing that I may just stumble into something that I know someone else may be looking for and I may be in a position to put the two together....

Sundance is: And Butch wasn't bad either: Both have new edge trim putty and upgrades. Neither had ROT. Amazing, really.

I think it's rust or mold... Maybe moss. LOL. The brackets are welded on the tank. I've been using it for my bullet heater. When empty, I'll try to trade it in... VK

Sundance isn't mine. She belongs to good friend Lamacki1. Butch is a not quite so pristine twin. LOL. Wouldn't it be funny if Sundance was Pink and Butch Blue???
