After debating the two way fridge/icebox thing, we decided an icebox was going to be too small for our family of 5, and the two way fridges were just too pricey. ???We found the Nostalgic Electric Fridge and matching Microwave and will use the 110 when we have hookups. Otherwise, if we are boondocking, thought we could convert the fridge to an "Icebox" with frozen water bottles. (and supplement with an ice chest)
Does anyone see a problem with this? We really liked the look of the Nostalgic Electric Retro series, and the price was $279 for both fridge and micro, shipped to my door.

I don't know how well the fridge will work as an icebox, but it'll probably be fine. I've been on the road for about a month, and my LP gas setting while on the road just doesn't keep milk, meat, etc. cold enough (now that it's near 90º outdoors) so I've been supplementing by freezing the bottles of water while hooked up at night, and then using them in a small ice chest with milk and meat and mayo while on the road, leaving drinks, etc. in the fridge.

Yeah, we figured we would try it, and see, but bring an ice chest for sure to store the milk, meats, etc. until we know if it works or not. When camping at the coast, temps stay in the 70's, so maybe the ice box concept will work. If not, the fridge looks great. haha. Jealous of your on the road for a month. Thanks for the insight.

What kind of Shasta do you have? Reason I'm asking - I had to return the red Nostalgic Electrics fridge b/c it would not fit in the kitchenette - part of the canned-ham style, obviously, requires the walls to curve inward. So I went with an icebox and bought a Yeti for ice and to keep things frozen. I was bummed because it was such a cute fridge, but it just wasn't gonna work. The upside of opting for an icebox, however, was just one less thing that required electricity. Post photos when you're done, pleez!

I have a 62 shasta 16sc and yes, it was a gamble getting these appliances. I hope they are okay, altho they do look kinda cheap so I was disaappointed. I guess you get what you pay for. I will save receipt and if I need to I will get a 2 way fridge or n icebox. I am plumbing for a 2 way just in case. Just tryin to go basic but bigger than an icebox with 5 of us......i know about the electricity..it was so nice to just try and use an "ice chest" fridge if I can sometimes....!!

If using a fride as an ice-box make sure to have a drip pan below (even if only using frozen water bottles). Ice-boxes provide drainage where fridges don't.

also, wal-mart carries them, and it says "free shipping" We got them from Walmart delivered free to our door! The fridge is great, but the Nostalgic Electric silver emblem is kinda cheap looking. Its a sticker. The microwave looks better. Both are kinda cheap in quality but well ya get what you pay for. They look great together and the style is very cute. I hope they fit and I am going to test the icebox part with a drip pan...
