Hi folks. I'm brand new to this forum. Any help would be appreciated. Do I need a title to register my 13 ft. '61 Shasta Airflyte in NJ ?
I bought it last year for $50 in NY state. It has no title or registration. I live in NJ and hope to register it here.
I started a title search last year (thinking that I needed a title in order to register it and get it on the road) Unfortunately, I had to put aside the title search for a while. Since then, I read that I might not need a title to register this small trailer. Does it go by weight in NJ?
Again....whatever information anyone might have would really be appreciated. Thanks Danny

You probably don't want to hear this, but the best bet would be either go to the DMV and talk to a supervisor or try and call them. Every state is different and the DMV is going to be the best source of info.

Agreed, Under a certain weights and prior to title regulations a lot of states don't require a title. Best to check out RMV websites.

New York would not have required a title on that old of a trailer. I am pretty sure that in NY the weight now has the most to do with classification and to titling for more modern ones. Thus there would have only been a registration to tie the line of ownership together. I do know that there are forms that NY uses in cases of lost registrations.
So none of this really helps answer what New Jersey requires and that is the important part now. Perhaps check the DMV website for information, but in a lot of the cases I have read of, the best course of action is to talk with someone in the department with some experience, and some free time to be able to help answer your questions.
