Well, I've been away for a while and came back to get caught up...and totally got caught by surprise. I'm so sorry to see this great forum come to an end. I wish it had been turned over to Vikx but I can understand how Brian feels.
So, thanks Brian, for starting this great forum. I have made some wonderful friends here and that won't go away and I will be forever grateful.
Going off to check out the forum that Vikx has started and wondering where on earth she gets all that energy from.

Brian, A big huge THANK YOU for all the work you put into this forum. Through this forum and its members we were able to restore three vintage beauties. This has been a valuable learning site, as well as a very fun social site.
I wish you only the best!!!!

Brian,Hate to see you go, but completely understand your situation. I'm the administrator of my high school class website, folks just don't understand the commitment one makes to do such a thing. I'm both retired and divorced, my time is my own, in your case, family comes first, as it did for me when I was a young man (it still does, but not as much). You're a good man, for what you've done in the past for the forum, and now for what you are doing for your family. No regrets, all the right choices. I'm so excited for you, now you and you wife can introduce your kids to camping. Y'all will have a much better time running around in the woods than the family watching you sit in font of a computer.God Bless You,Doug

Thank you so much for your efforts, Brian. I totally understand where you are coming from. I appreciate so much all the help from everybody here. There are always a few people who just don't know how to appreciate a good thing but most people do and we're so glad you decided to make a difference for those of us who love old Shastas!

Brian, I am sorry to see this but it seems there were a lot of growing pains with the new layout. I am so happy to have used this in the last few years...I would not have my trailer if it wasn't for this forum. I was able to get a lot help on this forum and will miss it. Thanks again for all the hard work that you put into this.

Brian, I hope you have checked back periodically, and have read the many comments from folks who are wishing you the best. As you can see, there has been an outpouring - we truly all do understand! (Most of us are, as you say, older; but we have "been there and done that"...) You can also feel proud of this board, and of all the information that has been built up and archived here. It has been of immeasureable help to so many people, myself included! Even now, I find myself searching for suggestions and tips here, almost every day. I do hope you will seriously consider leaving the board up, just as it is, as a permanent archive. Thanks; and again, we wish you all the best in life.

Let me chime in with my thanks as well, Brian. I joined in May '10 when I bought my Shasta, and learned a lot here. And thanks to Vikx for keeping it running.
Since everyone can (and I hope, will) copy their own rebuild threads and repost them in the new home or on a blog linked from there, the dating and VIN and model info, and the vintage Shasta and appliance documents are really the most important part of the data here. I mean, people can each save their own history here, and replacing rotten wood is pretty much the same in any brand, but the Shasta-specific stuff is vital. Is there really no way for the data to be exported to the new site?
I just copied my rebuild thread into a rich text document in order to save it for reposting somewhere. Took five minutes. I didn't want to try to rewrite it with hindsight somewhere else, where it would lose its sense of time and of my learning as I went.
For anyone else thinking of doing that but who may not be that computer-savvy, it's pretty easy. By dragging the mouse down each page to select all the text and also around the pictures, then copying and pasting into the document, I got not only my posts and all of your comments, I also got a list of every attachment photo filename, to help me locate them on my computers for reinsertion. I'm lucky in that I had to rename every picture before I posted it here because they are all reduced-to-forum-size copies of the high-res originals. So they all have names like LeftRearCornerPost.jpg. Makes them easier to find than one of a dozen "P200900003.jpg"s. If your thread still contains its pics, you can just right-click and save them.
One question: I also tried to copy my only other useful thread, my dis-assembly of a hot air furnace, but the furnaces section only has one page and six threads now. Does that mean that some threads have already been deleted?
Goodbye to all who don't make it over to the new place, it was fun while it lasted.

so sorry to hear your closing, but totally understand the demand of having a family. I haven't spent much time on the forum and just became a member late oct 2012. the little bit I was on was very informative and helpful and im happy to know that I am not the only person who loves the excitement of vintage trailers and all that comes with it. I hope to get the information and chat with the people on tintagetrailertalk.freeforums.net/ as I will be continuing my restoration project. thankyou for being there for us and giving us a space to communicate. take care and enjoy your time with your family.

Oh no! :-( Good luck and happiness and many thanks for the sacrifice and dedication.
Like many members wonder here: Why totally shutting it down? Some of us would probably be willing to take it over. Is that an option? If so, I'd be willing to discuss it!

Bummer, indeed!
Thank you very much for starting and maintaining the forum. I would not have been able to rebuild my terribly rotted 1971 Compact without the pictures and resources on this site. The project turned out well, but only because advice from members here allowed me to avoid a thousand errors.
Best wishes to you and your family,
Steve Carleton

Holy cow, what a shame. Sorry you had to suffer through such public annoyances Atomic. No good deed goes unpunished. While I/we can all understand the amazing amount of work you have done, might it make sense to pass the torch versus shut the group down. Perhaps we can pick it up through Google groups and take the weight off the substantial burden you have shouldered.
The biggest thing that we might ask is a way to archive or copy the info located on the current forum so all is not lost. Give it some thought and email me if that has any appeal to you.
You've done too much good work to throw it all in the trash (even though some of the participants deserve to be trashed). As I always tell my clients, any time you get 100 people or more together, the "bell curve" of human behavior guarantees that 10% will be complete asses. Sorry you had to suffer through that. The 90% really appreciate all your great advice and the work you have done.
Thanks!

Brian
Time will wash away any bitterness caused by a few ungratefuls and instead bring on feelings of satisfaction and pride that you were a big part of the revival of the restorations of vintage Shastas. Your children will someday read about this and glow with pride for what their father accomplished. Count me as sad and grateful....Best to you and your family.

Bummer! We just sold our first vintage trailer, a 1966 Shasta Compact, but I came back to see if anything else was for sale. So sorry to see that you're closing, but understand why. I learned a ton here, and hope to catch others on Vintage Trailer Talk. Cheers! Ian Lomax www.jewelorjalopy.comLooking for vintage trailer enthusiasts to help inspect vintage trailers

Brian, Wow! Haven't been here in a while and finally took some time to catch up. Totally understand life happens! We have went through 2 major sicknesses, with my wife and a teenage daughter in the past 3 years. I always thought this was the coolest site when I first found it! You could feel your passion in the site. So sad to see it go, even if I haven't been around it in a while. But, life goes on. We have enjoyed our Astro Flyte and will continue to do so. Hope you and your family do the same! Take care, Adam
