My Shasta has the vin # on the back drivers side above the bumper on a state of CA housing plate. and inside the tongue on a small plate again on the drivers side. the 2 shastas I know of do not start with a letter. Good luck to you. Welcome. I've learned loads of stuff here.

As far as I know, all Shasta's were given a letter which stated where they were manufactured. Here is the list of letters I posted earlier and what they meant. Here they are again. V =Indiana S =South Carolina P =Pennsylvania C, D, E, F or G =California W or 4 W's =Washington

Hi all, love the vintage site. I am new to it, and shasta. I have been looking every where to find the VIN, finaly under a bunch of paint I found the #. P28576 The letter I learned from the vintage site is where it was made, mine was PA, and are the last 2 #'s of the VIN the year of my shasta.

The series of numbers reflects the number of that model built to date. Judging by your number, your Shasta was probably built in 1974 or early 1975. What did your title state?

I too have a newly purchased Shasta with an unidentifiable VIN, no title, no plates. Found VIN stamped on passenger side of tongue...5186030312. No letter in front. Only other number I can find is on the driver side of the very front of tongue....12 77. I suspect, based on paint design and fiberglass wings that it is a 1977 tandum model. Has dual axels but is only 21.5 feet bumper to ball hitch. Any help with model and year identification would be great!

Hey loum,
Have a picture of your Shasta? Also, a close up of the VIN number. This would help with identifying it.
As far as I know, all Shasta had a letter, sometimes 2 letters in the VIN.

3 pics in an attachment. one of wing, one of VIN, and one of other 4 digit number stamped on very front of tongue. 12 77 are numbers, sorry, pic is upside down. Third digit in VIN looks like a 3 at first glance, but it's an 8. 3s have straight line for top. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! Attachments:

I believe that the 12 77 is when your Shasta was built. I defiantly has the correct color stripes for 1977 and is probably a Model 1750.
I would be willing to bet that your Shasta was built in Washington State. Washington's VIN's were very long, but would have a W in front of the VIN.
I do have 3 VIN's that begin with an A which is very strange, as well. These were all built in the mid to late 70's.
I just enter in what people give me.

Congrats on your first Shasta.
Generally the VIN's are stamped into the tongue.

There should be a little plate welded to the inside of the driver's side of the tongue, that you can see when you stand on the curb side and look down into the "V" of the tongue. Attachments:
