Third, motion passed. A local guy was parting out a 70's model including screen door. I thought about it but couldn't part with the ca$h. Besides, I don't think a wood one would detract from the vintage appeal or look out of place.
To answer your question, I have no plans for a door. Only plans to post them when I get some fir and time.

Maybe someone with a 50's wood screen door can post detailed pictures and accurate measurements of their door?
I of course don't have one so I can't. I'm sure someone can do it.

How about major dimensions and pics on an original metal door? Maybe dimensions on the opening too, so we can verify the match.

I can post info for my aluminum screen door on Tuesday or Wednesday next week when I have a bit more time. Unless someone beats me to posting the info. It isn't hard to make a wooden screen door frame. All you have to do in this case is make the slider that allows access to the exterior door lock. That would be the hardest part. Again, someone with the earlier wooden door could post detail pics of the construction of that part of the door. I can't even remember if all of the Shastas I have been in have all had aluminum doors or not. Brian

My hubbie just finished our wood screen door. Here's the link to the post. vintageshasta.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=doors&action=display&thread=4793Biggest issue is finding thin enough wood. Hubbie found some scrap wood at a customers junk pile. It was rough wood but it sanded down pretty smooth. Easy enough to make just measure your opening for proper clearance and find a style you like.

this is a copy of the screen door off my 1960 shasta. I have built screen doors for several trailers and the outer measurements are almost always the same as the exterior doors inner dimension's. Attachments:

The other thing I would add to this is folks should definitely measure their own door way. top, center and bottom. After 50 yrs and depending on whether it was built at the end of the day on Friday or not, the measurements might not be exactly as pictured. Mine is 20 1/4 by 65 1/2 and the opening is definitely no longer square so I'll be doing some scribing to have it fit.

Thought I'd post pics of my almost finished product. For the slider since I don't have a router, I just used 3/4" flat screen mold recessed 1/4 inch to hold the sliding panel. Then on the other side it adds a nice little profile detail that I don't think will interfere with the operation of the door. I added three vertical pieces on the bottom to keep my dog from destroying the screen. I used fiberglass screening and just stapled it in and covered with flat screen mold. Everything is secured with 1/4 in dowels and gorilla glue, twist nails for the slider panel and wire brads to hold the screen mold trim pieces.

Looks great!
I had at one time thought about adding a elevated kick plate of sorts to deal with small kids pushing on the screen. Your solution looks like it would work great.

What a beautiful job on all the doors. We are in the process of restoring a 1968 Pathfinder and have so enjoyed all the advice we have found on the Shasta Forums. We have just started and look forward to May 2013.

I have located a source for the original style aluminum frame to make or repair the doors. ( Mine has worn through on the bottom because the threshold rubbed. Also It seems the rivets must have been loose because they were replaced with screws) I have not located the source for the slider door material. The issue is that I must order a minimum of 10 pieces 12 ft long. Would there be an interest in this material for repairing or replacing of the original doors? I will do a quick estimate of costs it there is.

Actually if a member lives in the LA area maybe something could be worked out on a smaller purchase. I would greatly appreciate assistance on this. Anyone in the area? WSG Industries, Inc.

good on you for actually posting the drawing with dimensions. When I did mine I found that it required some finagling to get the right gap etc.... Especially if you are not doing a complete restoration. The important thing is to get the gap right. on the hinge side so that it closes well, which it may not do until you have the latch working.

Here's a video tutorial on how I built the screen door for my Deville. Same for most trailers that have wooden doors. The dimensions are different from trailer to trailer. This is part one of three. The links to the other parts are listed down near the reply box. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5JKtj4lGJU

Huge thanks to Ben in Kennewick for posting his dimensions of the 1960 Shasta. I have a 1968 Loflyte and though the measurements may not be exact, it shows what to measure and how to fit all pieces together.
One question...what about the screen door latch?? I see a place in my door frame where the screen door used to close (I assume) but I don't see anything on the pictures of the wood screen doors to indicate how the latch works or what the hardware is. Thanks all.

Here's one I like. I even kept the pic of it for future copy building! Yep. Airfloat has one of the most unique screen door patterns I have seen.
