Looks like this plate would have to be used in California only, and on particular year trailers. Appears that if you "own" the plate and its not linked to anything that in california you can use that plate on anything with the same age. I dont live there. No expert. Maybe Callie65 can chime in on this.
Here in GA we can do that to some degree. I had a trailer i sold. Plates do not transfer so i kept the plate on it (actually it never got put on it, just sitting on the desk). I was told at the tag office that if i ever get another trailer i could use the tag off that trailer and save the tag fees.

In Georgia you can run an original vintage plate on your vintage vehicle. You just have to register it at DMV and keep your real registered plate in your car. We did that with our 1967 Fairlane. Bought a '67 Georgia plate on eBay, got it approved at DMV and put it on the Fairlane and keep our other plate in the car.
BUT we cannot run a 1965 plate on our trailer. DMV says vehicles only. Really bummed cause we wanted to have a vintage plate on the trailer.
Also our 1974 bug isn't old enough to run a vintage plate. Has to be 1970 or older.
We've been gone too long from Cali to know the rules, just check on their website for info.

Indiana; Same as above running vintage tag on vintage cars, runs extra $50.00 per year like a vanity tag. Number gets approved through DMV. So far here, vintage trailer tags no. Just put it on when you get to the ralley! Check with YOUR local DMV to be sure.

There is an outfit that will make any plate you want in vintage colors, year ect. Have them put your current numbers on the repo plate and I can't imagine you getting caught with these. Keep your current plate in the trailer just in case. Number is 1-800-491-2068.

I'm trying to figure out who is producing those license plate holders that are customized like the one I saw that was red (plastic) with white lettering across the top that said Shasta and across the bottom Class of 1961...I would be happy buying one of those for each of my different campers, indicating the make and year of each. Anybody know who is making them?
That said, I bought the '50 Travelo up in Maine and when I went up to pick it up, I stayed in a B&B for a few days, because it was so gorgeous, and had only to walk across the street to an antique shop, where I rooted around in a cardboard box of old license plates and found a Trailer Tag from New Jersey that was dated 1950...cost $15. It is still on the Travelo, and I have the real Mississippi tag in a drawer in the camper...sigh, I will put that on when it is taken out on the highway...I have been told Mississippi does not have vintage plates for campers, like they do for any car at least 25 years old or older...just seems strange to see a 1987 car/truck sporting a horseless carriage tag anyway...1987!?! antique!?! I have bibb overalls older than 1987...and probably at least one pair of L.L. Bean gumboots to go with them.

I bought my "Shasta class of 65" plate holder on eBay. The guy makes them in many colors. I got red. You can get one that goes on top of the plate or on the bottom. Just search "Shasta class of" on eBay, he is still selling them. $4.99 + $2.00 shipping.

Oops. It's not a plate holder, it's a topper or bottomer (lol) that mounts behind your plate or plate holder. Sorry for the error.

ouch universal...if I spring for one of the nice personalized frames , I would have increased my investment in 2 of my beauties by 33%...lol...I'm gonna check out what 65callie was referring to. Plate holders are cheap at advanced auto parts in Gulfport, so young rednecks in love can mount their "tasteful" airbrushed Bubba Luvs (fill in a favorite cousin) plate bought at the mall during the once a month visit, on the front bumper of our...oops, their trucks...I actually have a vanity plate on my beater Z-71 that reads ILYJLW...did I mention my wife's name is Janine...seemed like a better idea than to have a facsilimi of that plate tattooed across my chest...couldn't bear the thought of having the little expiration month and year boxes lasered off and changed every year.

I saw the old plates hung over the new at the rally. They had just a hook affair.
My old plates go in the closet or a cupboard on the rebuilds. Just think it's bad luck to toss them...
