Interesting, I thought you couldn't chrome plate aluminum.

Aluminum can be polished to look like chrome....looks like there's either a chrome badge or the aluminum. I'd like to see them in a bigger close up.

Yep I found this earlier today and posted on the other thread. They look nice and he does other ones, guessing he cast it out of one that had a bit of pitting and it became part of it. The thing I don't like is that he charges $25 for shipping....darn thing doesn't weigh more than 10 oz....should be able to ship for the lowest priority USPS rate.

I got ahold of the company and they sent me some bigger pics, and a little info. I'll post them up this evening, I am at work right now.

universalexports sent me a link to the forum and invited me to introduce myself, so here I am.
I am the individual who has the Shasta logos. It isn't really a company - just me. The internet store is on my site which does feature quite a bit of Airstream, Streamline and Silver Streak content. The site has been around on the internet for almost fifteen years now.
I got into the logos after a lot of searching and a number of trials of different people who claimed that they could cast aluminum replicas for my own personal Streamline logo. Finally, I found someone who could make a decent casting. I got into Silver Streak logos after requests from Silver Streak owners, and into the Shasta one as a favor for a friend in California.
The internet store is a break-even operation at best. For those who complain about the shipping, I just drop the logos off at a shipping store along with an address and they pack and ship mostly by UPS. Costs do run me normally between $20 and $25 - even higher if to places like Canada. I would be willing to drop the price of shipping for Shasta owners if requested, but then I am going to go up correspondingly on the price of the logos and this will hit anyone who wants more than a single logo in a shipment.
To answer other questions above, yes, you can chrome plate aluminum, and yes, the replica did pick up any pitting that was on the original logo that was used for the casting.
Aluminum can be polished to a mirror finish, but there is quite a bit of non-level area on the Shasta logo, and that part is not going to polish up very easily. Then too, while aluminum does polish, it also oxidizes which requires constant maintenance. I really recommend the aluminum replicas for painting, or to have chromed if you prefer to handle this.
If anyone has any questions, please ask.

here are a couple of pics that he sent me, they are not perfect pristine replicas, but look to be better than any old ones I have been able to find. I'm going to order a bare aluminum one and see what I can do. if anything he has the contacts and resources to produce a great product if there was enough people needing one (hint)

guess I gotta start scrounging for quarters in the couch...I'd love to have one of these, maybe after tax season and holidays. And thanks Tom for the explanation....makes sense, though I'm guessing your shipper smiles every time you walk in with an order.

The shipper might smile, but then so do I. His shop is a whole lot easier to take than the line in the post office !!! At almost age 74, I have better ways to spend my time than at USPS !!!

I'm going to order one in plain aluminum and polish it to see how it looks, then maybe clearcoat it. I'll post pics.

Looks pretty damn pristine to me... I'm really curious, what'd you make the mold out of?
