Absolutely GORGEOUS! Congrats on your progress. You will get there. Remember that the inside doesn't have to be completely complete before you take it out. Actually, it's good to have a short trip before you're done to see how the main systems are working.

Now THAT my friends is how to restore a Shasta. All brand new from the tires up. Too bad this board wasn't around in 1957 for the Shasta Manufacturing employees to see. We'd show em how to do this...

Mobiltech, The hand pump is very cool! didn't have that in my trailer so I went with the 12v pump. Thanks on the comments...this is all trial by fire for me, with a lot of help from many very talented folks on this site.

Looks great smccusk, so what are you using to cut the aluminum? Schweet, I've been using hand shears, a straight edge, and a razor. Used sheet metal snips on the radiuses on the front dinette windows...went slow taking 1/32 at a time, then hit it with a rounded file.. I figured it didn't have to be perfectly smooth because a gasket will cover the radius prior to glass.

mobiltec - forget the water, just put one of those wine boxes, or beer on tap in there! (Coming from someone who doesn't drink. I'd say lemonade, but it's too hard on the old blood sugar.)

smccusk it would be a great time to raise the height of that rolling door on the garage Amazingly it fit. I dropped the tongue onto a floor jack to lower the front enough the get her in. Once the front was in I raised jack so the vent in the back would clear. When she move outside soon I'll leave the vent off just to be safe, install it outside.

This fall I plan on building a shelter to work under. I am so sick and tired of tarps and wind and rain and bird poop I could just puke.

Spent the afternoon tearing off some very nasty upholstery from the set of original dinette seats I recently acquired. Thank goodness for my respirator...
One hinge is broken, but looks like an easy fix. One side is a little rusty (the roof had caved on the donor airflyte.) I think some wire brushing and rustoleum will do the trick.
A few pictures on my photo bucket site; address in my signature block.

I pulled of a couple of ceiling panels on my Compact resto to run some wire for lights. I also removed the ice box cabinet in the street side front corner. since I am in the middle of redoing the interior I have taken things out and re installed them a couple of times. Everything is screwed in so easy to r&r. I now have all my lights, an led dome over the table, 2 swivel spot reading lights which will attach under the overhead bins, and an overhead swivel halogen for the galley.I was going to re install the water tank but decided to replace the drain valve. when I did that the valve wouldn't unscrew and somehow the threads stripped or something. The fitting turns but won't unscrew. I found this water tank on line www.plastic-mart.com/product/3193/9-gallon-rv-water-tank-rvb532 for $63. and will use it as a replacement.

I am thinking that a new plastic water tank is in the future for mine. I don't feel comfortable with trying to clean the old one. Does anyone know if the original hand water pump is repairable?

We are on Day 4 of our renovation and we are pretty exhausted already! We went to Lowe's today and got a shop-vac! It really helps to clear out all of that old newspaper shredding insulation! We also got a small blade for one of our circular saws which we will use to remove the rotted wood panels. Tomorrow the work resumes! As for today, we are taking it easy!

I'm liking that retro fridge! Funny thing about those counter tops. I just tore out the counters in our camp in ME built in the 50's and they looked to be exactly the same color and design, but were beat up and covered with contact paper, too bad. Looks great!!

This stuff looks great and it's brand new old stock. It's supposed to be over 50 years old. Had to put the roll in the sun for a few hours just to peel enough away from the roll to make the counter top. Will have to do the same with the table. FlyingHam! I love your sig name. I may have to make a real radio control flying canned ham some day. I saw a flying lawn mower once.

That is Bob and Cindy Ross and they are the Wagon Masters for the Pismo Event. Say hi to them and make sure to go look inside the "Big Green Pickle" as they call it. Cindy does a wonderful job of decorating. They just picked up that trailer a few weeks ago. You have seen Bob and Cindy in my videos if you watch regularly. Have fun and take lots of photos.

I am finally installing the metal sides. The roof goes on this coming week. The cushions and curtains are in the process of being made. I will have it ready for paint in a few weekends.

I screwed with the blankity blank blanked up piece of blank wheels again today. As I said before, I found that 13 inch wheels and tires work on these old 1500s. That's because that is what they came out of the factory with. I tried one on the curb side and it slipped up in there just great and bolted right on. So I ordered two more. Jacked up the street side and let the air out of the 15 inch tire and fought with it for a few minutes and finally got it off. Went to put the new 13 inch on and it didn't fit. And it was the same wheel as the one on the curb side. I even took the one off the curb side and brought it over and tried it on the street side and no fit! So I took both drums off and they are exactly the same in every way including the casting numbers. So what gives? All three of the tires I bought fit the curb side just fine and even with the drums removed from the axles, I can not get the wheel to drop down on the street side drum. Again I ask... WHAT GIVES? I measured the diameter of both drums because I can see by the scratch marks on the inside of the new wheels that the wheel is being stopped by the width of the drum... but they are the same diameter so what gives? Finally, I turned the "bad" drum over and tried dropping the drum down into the upside down wheel and discovered the problem........................ It was only hitting at two points exactly 180 degrees apart from each other. The drum is oblong in shape. Only minutely, but enough to stop the wheel from fitting over it. Now what really get's me is how this thing ever left the factory. The even bigger thing is why was I the lucky one to end up with it? And to top it all off, someone, perhaps MANY MANY HUNDREDS of people have been puting up with this problem since the first time it ever had a flat. That is unless the original 13 inch wheels had a tad bit more clearance than the new ones do. I have another Shasta scheduled to start in August and I think Im just going to call it off. I have never ever seen a trailer that came off of a production line with as many factory defects as this one. NEVER. I've never seen ANYTHING that came off ANY production line with this many factory built in defects. I'm not wanting to go through this again so once this one is gone I think I am done with Shasta. I'll still stop in for the SOB part of the board at times. You people are great but I just can't see having a heart attack or a stroke over stuff that was screwed up over 50 years ago and nothing I can do about it.

You just need to do what I did, take everything Shasta and throw it away, build it new from the out of square frame and you'll be fine. I actually installed my new 15" wheels today and had now problems so I wonder if the wheel fitment problems were pre-58.
