The original 13 inch rims were only 4 1/2 inches wide if your new rims are wider that could be the problem or the offset/ rear spacing could be different or the shape of the drop in the rims could be different than the original wheels. Shasta didn't make the brake drums or the wheels but I understand they bought them as an assembly also someone may have replaced the drum. another thought is it may have been dropped off a jack with no wheel on and bent the drum did you check to see if the inside of the drum was out of round. Smile things could be worse maybe this is showing up a problem that can save someones life.

Bill it's probably the latter of your theories. It really makes sense that it could have been dropped. That would do it. As far as saving someone's life is concerned, it's lasted this long LOL....
The owner has decided to replace the entire axle including spring packs and all related hardware. He will do that after it leaves here cuz Im done with the wheel thing. This is the second time I've messed with those wheels and last time it cost me 2 weeks in time and over a hundred dollars in gas. Not messing with it anymore. Was never part of the deal to even touch the wheels. I now wish I never had. Someone please just kick me.

Make sure to inform him that one thing to do to increase the clearances is mount the axle under the leaf springs, it's only like a inch but man it makes all difference in the world!

That had been planned from the beginning. I am going to mic the inside of the drum tomorrow. Don't know why I didn't do that today. Im going to mic it all the way around the inside and that should tell me if it was dropped or not. If so, then I can not repair it and will just have to put the old wheels back on and leave it be. I don't do axle work.

I finished up my new lighting on my 1965 Compact resurrection yesterday including a 4 gang fuse panel with lighted rocker switches. Today I installed a second a/c outlet (one by the cook top and one in the U of the U shaped settee) and ran the wire to the circuit breaker box that is now located at the front end of the street side settee inside under the seat. I also got the Ice box installation completed. It now faces to the rear and has about 3-4" of foam insulation on all sides and Foam inside the door as well. One day soon I am going to do a test to see how long ice will last. Next on the list is the water tank install. I bought a new hand pump faucet (just like the original but new , not 40 yr old). I am looking for a new stainless sink .

Brought Tallulah Belle home from the RV deal we had paid to inspect the various systems. Water system needs replacement, propane lines look good, and I am accumulating the various items for a 120/12v system. Have also acquired a new set of Shasta wings (THANKS, Tylerbes!!!), a Shasta chromed emblem, a Bargman license plate light, various air and electric tols for polishing and finishng, some powdered pumice for French polishing of the interior birch, a tankless heater, water pump and two 40 gallon propane tanks. Cannot wait to get started but working offshore I have a very limited time home, so have not gotten any work actually done yet.

You will love the tankless water heater. They use very little gas and get even cold Northwest water plenty hot for a shower. YOu said 40 gallon gas tanks. Do you mean 40 POUND? If you have two of them, that is a LOT of gas to be hauling around, and those things are heavy. One 20-pound tank should suffice for a family of four for a couple weeks on the road of cooking, cleaning and bathing. Congrats on the wings, that's always something that brings a smile. Tallulah Bell is going to be beautiful! (And we are impressed that you're going to do a French Polish finish on the birch- that is a huge amount of work that will give you beautiful results.)

Got most of the electrical in today. All the lights are 12vdc and running off the converter with charge wizard and battery. The frigerator is electric only at this point. It runs on "butane" also but I don't know if that means that propane will work or not. I'll leave that to the refrigeration guys. The light fixture in the photo is the original fixture but I had to buy a new globe. Works great with a 50 12vdc bulb in it.

Today I camouflaged my trailer with 4" of snow. Still trying to add more. I hope that we get two more inches befor it is done. We drove our little 65 Camact just like this one in the snow home in the rain from our first Shasta Rally!

well I spent about 4 hours rebuilding the street side bench box, it's getting there. 1 used 1x2 popular wood, and grooved from the back to about 1/4 inch to the front so the birch would not be an inch back, (think like the back side of picture frame), where the glass goes in flush, not original, but will be strong when I am done, and personally I think it is just as easy to lift the seat up a bit to get in there, vs getting on your hands and knees under the table, I am putting my fuse box and AGM battery in there.

I got a little further on my bench, I got some bracing added and got it shellacked, it was way hot today, I need to make the AC unit my next project.

Nice... Is that the original floor? I see all the water lines show up there. What's inside the seat box?

yeah, the floor is original and in great shape, I plan on putting down 1/4 flooring and putting down new tile, I am going to have a breaker box and AGM battery in a sealed and vented box inside the seat area. I've been going back and forth on putting in a small door, but it about as easy to just lift up the seat, as get down on all fours to get in a small door.

You know if you go to Harbor Freight you can get two sealed 12vdc batteries and put them in parallel and you won't need a vent. They are about 87 bucks each but there is always some sort of sale going on and you can always get 20 bucks off some how. They call them their "Solar Batteries". You can run them completely dead without hurting them. You can also get the rest of the solar kit there. Just a thought.

Pulled the wheels off and blasted/cleaned and primed them, rear bumper and water outlets under the side. Painted the tires with white sidewall paint (looks GREAT!), dropped off Shasta emblem and baby moons at the chrome shop in Baton Rouge. Picked up new glass for curb side front window amd two mirrors for inside mount on closet doors. Ordered butyl tape, running lights and various small hardware. Found and ordered a sheet of aqua boomerang Formica and yellow cracked ice/white vinyl for upholstery. Does several hours of Internet research count also??

Very slowly. I have a year and a half into the 57 Shasta. It did sit at the painter's shop for 3 months and I was a little unhappy with that but it's a pretty good job for the price. Hard to get good work for a decent price without giving something up. Like time... It was really like a vacation. LOL...
