Anyone got specs for new axle for 1956 1500?

Hi all
Here comes the torrent of questions now that Trailer is in hand. So I think I'm gonna go ahead and get a new axle assembly with electric brakes. Based on a couple of calls figure it will cost me around $500. Can anyone tell me what the specs would be.

I'm assuming I should go with a 3500lb axle
TTH (#84) Drop 4" Spindle
Uses L68149 Inner Bearing, L44649 Outer Bearing.
10 x2 1/4 Electric brakes

But after that.....
Do I need to replace the leaf springs too, right now there are 6 leaves.... but option seems to be for 4 or 5 if I replace. And then do I want double eye or slipper?

Do I want never lube or ez lube?

What is the bolt on pattern?

Does anyone have the dimension between the hub faces? I can get the measurement for the spring distance pretty easily. Just don't want to take everything off if I don't have to.

And do I need to worry about the size of the axle affecting what wheel size (I have 13 in wheels) I need?

Consider me a luddite when it comes to this stuff, and be gentle, thanks!

You can order 3500lbs axle with e/brakes and spring kit for around $390. I think that is what I paid. I ordered it through ABCtrailer.com

It depends on the bolt pattern for the wheels you have now or if you plan on replacing them. The standard lug pattern is 5x4.5

You need to measure from the middle of your frame rails to determine the lenght of the axle. This is how I think all measurements are taken. Then you add 16in. My measurement was 51.5in from frame rail to frame rail.

I tried to answer as many as I could for now. They're in Maroon above.

Even after all my thinking trying to think of how I can answer your questions I think it might be easier to take it to a trailer shop and have them do it. Todays springs are shorter than the older ones so cutting and welding is required when installing the new spring kits.

Same neighbor who towed my sweetie down from Oregon is going to help me flip the axle so that it's under the leaf springs. Wait a bit on the axle replacement and brakes. Said he could probably help me replace the axle too if we go that route. He is racking up a lot of timesharing credit!

Just from my experience, when I ran into axel problems with the '50 Travelo, I had it taken to a reputable commercial trailer repair Company, and they did all the work. I dropped the trailer off, and four weeks later it was ready with a new axel and hub assembly and everything I needed...total cost $405, including new rims to fit the hub pattern. Zero headache, zero engineering on my part. Trailer pulled straight and true for 1500 miles to Mississippi.

Bruce, was that the trailer you bought up her ein New England that had an issue on the way home?

Yep, that would be Miss Maine 1951...I had the work done by REP Trailer Sales and Service. I can't remember the name of the city, cause I did not stay in that city, while I waited for the two days to get the bad news from them, while they tried to salvage the axel/hub I had damaged, because I scooted to Hampton Beach to a hotel along the boardwalk to wait out the decision. But if I remember correctly the city has the word Green in it, and it was off of the second exit going south into Massachusetts, or two exits north of the entrance to the Mass Pike if that helps. I think you can google REP and find out where they are located. I'm at work, but will look and see if I have their business card somewhere here, and if so let you know.

oops...Miss Maine 1950...she might be angry for me telling her age, but I just hit the 1 instead of the 0. Don't want y'all to think I'm as crazy as Charlie Sheen and bought yet another trailer in Maine...lol!
