Interesting situation on my roof. Looks like an old repair repair job that's failing...or something? Does anyone have a recommendation on how i should seal this up? -Rusty Attachments:

That is silver fiberglass roof cement. Heavy, sticky, tar crap. See it on a lot of trailers, but it really doesn't work well in this application. The best thing would be to remove all of it, several on here have done this using paint stripper and other chemicals, hopefully they will chime in. Mine has it but not too thick. I just cleaned the areas around the seams. I used a cheap plastic putty knife (.99 variety) to scrape the south side of the seam. North side being the front of the trailer. It actual scraped off pretty easy and was cracked like yours and holding water. Once I got it off I used a seam sealer like this: www.vintagetrailersupply.com/Alcoa_Gutterseal_p/vts-138.htm I used dicor, but I wish I had used Alcoa, I think it would have wicked into the seam better. Dicor sealed it, I just hadn't found this stuff yet. There are other sources for Alcoa than VTS. Many use something like kool-seal or another brand of elastomeric roof coating. It sticks to old roof coatings and just about everything else. BUT, prep work is essential as many also report even kool-seal cracking on the seams after a few years. So you need to seal the seams, vents, and small holes before coating. Which after doing all that sealing, I wonder, "why bother with the roof coating?" It does make it look pretty again... Sorry for the book Red Dirt

If it were me, I would use the Kool Seal Elastomeric Roof Coating. One gallon should do it. I believe you can source it locally, Home Depot if you have one. There are a lot of discussions on various shasta and scotty groups where they discuss the pros and cons. I would scrape clean and seal now, then read the discussion before applying the roof coating. I am still on the fence. Mainly because even at 6' tall I only see the roof with a ladder. ;D

Thanks again, Red Dirt. I just order a gallon of the Kool Seal Elastomeric from my local RV store (local Home Depot and Lowes don't carry it).

Hi, I would like to suggest you to take the help from any expert who has an experience of roof repair. I think so that roof leakage is not a unique problem. This can be easily solved by the roof repair specialist.
