Not sure what you call them, but referring to the cover over the front window to protect it going down the road from rocks, etc.,?
Our first compact has the guard but it was a newer one (68). Did the older canned ham models come with the window guards?

I have never seen one on our canned ham Compacts, but with a little effort I suppose a person could fabricate a window guard for the front window.

Oh ok, I was just curious if they ever had them or not. I wouldn't add one if it wasn't meant to be there (:

I agree with Jim, that I have never seen one illustrated anywhere with an original rock guard...but that is the one real design flaw about the earlier Compacts that I am thinking about fixing. On the tow home when I bought my Compact one of my jalousie window panes took a rock strike, and the split pane would have fallen out onto the highway if it had not wedged the two broken edges together. I think an aluminum metal fabricator could make a tasteful guard that would hinge under the drip guard that could match the look of the drip guard aluminum, and it would increase the desirability of the Compact as well as act as a sun shade when you are at the sink.

Bruce,
That is a interesting idea. I was curious how it would look. One that "blended" in well might be the answer and a good way to protect that window during travel.

I have thought about this as well. My 1500 has plexiglass in the front window now which is all scratched up and I would love to replace with glass...was considering tempered glass. And a light weight aluminum rock cover (I'd make it removable) would be very helpful. Thought it's kind of nice to sort of be able to see out through the back.
