hi there we recently purchased a 65 skyflyte and are towing cross country. We have made it to Texas from the Ca bay area with minimal problems so far. How ever after getting to Huston we noticed our trailer was listing to the drivers side and had abnormal tire wear on the inside of the same tire. After taking apart the assembly it seems that the electromagnet needs to be replaced. We are lucky enough to have the original manual for the Kelsey Hayes electric brakes and all the original part #'s. So this leads me to my question, 1 - do you think it would be better/easier/cheaper to replace the whole brake assembly or just the magnet? 2 - should I do it for both wheels as one would do normally for a car? and 3 - do have a compatible parts list you could send me? The brakes are 10" universal w/ a 2&3/8" magnet. Brake assembly part #48974-5. Magnet assembly part #48858-9. Thank you very much for your response.

I personally would replace both sides. When you take your car to the shop for brakes you dont just one side, you do both. As for your tire wear it has nothing to do with the brakes. It sounds like you have a bad spring or a broken leaf. Hope this helps

THanks for the response Dennis. I replaced both brake assemblies today but I think I need to adjust the brakes a little better, any one got any tips on that? I mean it sounds easy enough but the practice is a little more complex it seems. As for the tire wear you suspect the spring leaf heh? I was quite honestly afraid of that. Is that a complex procedure and are parts easy enough to find. Were in Huston now and all the resources seem to be regular old RV shops. Thanks again in advance for any replies out there.

For setting the brakes you typically keep the tire off the ground. Spin the tire while you are adjusting them and when you hear or fell some drag on the wheel that is when you stop. Repeat for the other side.
From what I remember todays springs are shorter than the stockones you have now. The rear mounting location will have to be moved for the trailer to ride proper. A good trailer axle will know the right thing to do, I hope.
