I am looking for an air conditioner for my 1956 Shasta deluxe 19 foot
so my question is how many BTU's do I need, I live in Arkansas, we hit the 90 degree mark alot in the summer, with 99-102 on the super hot days,
I have found a really good deal on 3500 btu, but is this large enough???
I will be adding insulation when I redo the inside and outside.

3500 BTUs doesn't seem to be enough to me. The smallest window air conditioners are 5000 BTU and don't cool very many square feet. I think you need at least 5000 BTU but would consider bigger if you can find room.

I have a 5000 BTU window a/c for my 69 compact with is smaller. The 5000 BTU is rated for 150 square feet of cooling area which is way more than a camper. I assume the 3500 you talking about is a roof mount and I'm really not familiar with their cooling. We went camping Memorial weekend here in North Carolina and it was in the 90-92 temp range and I kept my a/c on low cool at about 3/4 setting. I also insulated the camper when rebuilding and we were very cool the whole weekend. I do have the a/c mounted on top of the new closet I built on the back wall/road side of the camper and with cold air falling it does a great job of cooling. Hoe this helps with your decision.

We have a 69 compact w/ an 8000 BTU portable AC. We live in Missouri so depending where you are in Arkansas, the climate is pretty much the same. Over the holiday weekend it was around 100, we were parked in the shade,, and our AC was starting to have problems keeping up. It stayed around 77 but at one point it was at 80. We have a few edits to do to make it better such as insulating the curtains to make it better.

We reinsulated about half our trailer but had no need to pull the paneling out of the front to redo that part
