Hello everyone,
So I have a question about the re wiring of my 1951 cozy cruiser. I recently pulled it into town to get an estimate on rewiring the brake/tail lights because it currently doesn't have any that work. I was -- very rudely -- told that the whole project was impossible and not worth my time or efforts. They told me that even if I were to rewire the existing lights to a workable condition it would still be a failure because the lights would only show braking and turn signals (not a constant light that would be visible at night). They tried to sell me very large new-age RV lights and told me to toss the originals. I was very disheartened by this advice, but not discouraged. I have been doing some research but need some more information, is this in fact true that the tail lights will not be visible at night unless braking or turning if the original tail lights (they are small with one bulb) are used? If this is the case is there a way to fix the problem? Also is it true that the original lights (once rewired) will be too dim? Please give me any advice on what to do and/or what not to do! Thank you in advance!!!
Lauren

Depending on how far you want to take this project, I rewired mine and set original light lenses over L.E.D. fixtures and it is brilliantly lit. Bulbs are a hassle. L.E.D. will last longer than you typically and require far less energy than bulbs. Check out my blog post vintagecampground.blogspot.com/2011/05/and-then-there-was-light.html and feel free to ask me how to do it!

does it have duel filament bulbs? if it has 2 gold bumps on the bottom, it is a duel filament, and can be made to work the tail, turn, and stop lights, not an issue with anyone that has decent knowledge of a 4 wire setup. and the tail lights would be connected to the license plate bulb, that comes on when the head lights are turned on. here is a decent diagram. should give you an idea. www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx

It should cost around $50 but it is a solid built kit and worth it to have quality lighting.
