Testing Electric Brakes

Is there a way that I can test the function of my electric brakes? I don't have a harness on my vehicle for electric brakes so I obviously can't hook it up and test them. What I want to do is see that they're actually functioning. I need to use the camper in a few weeks so unless I know that they're working already I'll have to make due for now with no brakes and make them a winter project.

Hook up the brake hot to a 12 volt power source with the source ground to the trailer frame. Touch the brake ground to the frame. The brakes should activate. (all grounds should be clean metal contact)
