a while back someone on here told me to use different screws when installing my fantastic fan, they said there was a thread here about it, but darned if I can find it,
Sooo, do I just need stainless screws the size of the originals or something different?
thanks in advance

If you are going into new framing same size should be fine. If you are going into old framing either use one size bigger OR better, use the toothpick/glue in the old hole trick to make sure that your same size screws have a good bite. This is also a good thing to do on the drip rail when replaced.
I've heard some people squirt a little vulkem into the holes (syringe) but guess you better be sure you're not gonna wanna take em out.

i just installed a vent but used the screws that came with it, think they were 1" or 1.25" plated hex screws

For the fantastic I also used the screws that came with it. You didn't specify whether you were replacing the old vent or getting a new one or a fantastic, hence my more generic answer.

Yes, it was some additional information for me Tomamara. Thanks for that information. I was also using the screws that came up with it but now i would be more careful length of screws. But do tell me please as I don't know that does it makes really a different scenario with fantastic fan if it is new instead of old one.

No it doesn't make a difference, the fantastic screws that I got with the unit were the right size for the framing....just measure and make sure that the screws won't go through.
