So, did a 1963 compact come with a bumper? My paperwork pic doesn't show one by my po built a box one out of 2 x6's. It's handy for storage but hubby doesn't like it. Show me pix of what your bumper looks like and tell me if it's original (as far as you know). Or tell me what plans you have for a bumper. Thanks

Here is the real simple bumper I built for my 65 Compact (before paint). I built this with about $40 worth of steel. The hitch is so I can do a bike rack or cargo carrier.

Thanks gremlinguy...It's hard to tell from the pic...is it c-channel or a square tube? How 'tall' is it? What gauge steel did you use? How much does it weigh? How did you attach it to the frame?
I've only been able to find 5.4# c-channel which is very heavy for 6 feet but the man said anything thinner/lighter has to be manufactured and would cost twice as much. We're a little concerned about that weight with the attachment set up that is currently on the frame (a piece of steel sticking out past trailer attached to the frame with 2 bolts). The po's wooden box bounced all around and it weighs about half the weight of the steel!
