This may be a dumb question, but when installing trim/J-rail, what do you do with the extra putty that squishes out the side? Can you trim it without affecting the seal? What should you use to trim it with? Thanks!

i trimmed some of my excess flush with the trim with a razor blade, do it carefully so you dont cut the skin or scratch paint. likely could also use a plastic knife (like dealing with play-doh)

Although I tried to set it back a smidge when applying it....I did have some slop over. I used a butter knife and just trimmed it off. A finger moistened with mineral or olive oil will smooth down any rough edges or small gaps. [a href="our59deville.blogspot.com/"]our59deville.blogspot.com/[/a][/b]

I use a dull screwdriver. (Actually, it's my Dad's old electricians knife; the screwdriver blade. Love that knife!) Also, a small headed hard rubber hammer "seats" the trim into the putty before trimming. Pound it as flush to the body as possible. Once it's tight, trim the putty.

Thanks! I was hoping it was that simple.
