Hello again! While I have so much of the J rail off and since I found so many areas with hardened or missing butyl tape, I thought I'd continue removing along the roof line just reseal. But the port and starboard sides are different. On the port side, I have J rail from the bottom rear to he middle of the roof, then it switches to a different type of drip rail. On the port side, I have J rail from the bottom rear to about two feet along the roof, then it switches to something else. It looks from the side like a lower case "b" with a notch out of the b or you could say that the bottom edge of it looks like a lower case "c". Oh shoot. Here's a picture. You tell me. When should I stop using J rail and start using this other stuff? Attachments:

The J channel is used as a gutter. What you have pictured is an Awning Rail, which is used to slide the Awning Welt (of your Awning) into.
Do you have a picture of the other type of channel?

Hmmm. The forum gremlins are messing with me this morning. Trying again... I was mistaken about their being awning rail on the starboard side. That is all J-rail. However, on the port side, the awning rail goes from nearly the back corner..... Attachments:

Yes, the awning rail appears to be in the correct place on the Curb Side.
And YES, if you need to replace any of the J Channel (Drip Edge ), it is available.

Interesting. So there isn't supposed to be anything to channel water off the roof on the awning side, huh?
OK!
Thanks (again)

That's right, just the awning rail. It acts as a sort of channel to help move the rain water to the J Channels.
I like to add a dot of clear sealant between the ends of the J Channel and the Awning Rail. This provides a good seal and prevents water from dripping between the 2 joints.
