I have a 62 Airflyte that has the hydraulic brakes on it. They have been dry and unused for years, and I would like to make them work again. I have the old parts cleaned up, but I need to get new brake cylinders and brake pads. I believe that I have found the right brake cylinders, but I have had no luck so far with the pads. The pads are 10" by 2 1/4" and they have a Ford logo on them. Napa cant find any Ford car or truck from 55-65 that has this size. I will try a trailer shop but was wondering if anyone else has gone though this before, and could give me an idea on a part number. Thanks, Brian

That could be a struggle. I wonder if you could match them up to other trailer brakes?
You will need to flush the system well before adding your new cylinders to be sure there is no crud in the lines. The seals in the hitch cylinder could be suspect, investigate those as well.

I will be replacing all of the lines, and I will be looking at the master cylinder next, if I can find the parts for the hydraulic set up. I have already spoken with a trailer supply place about switching it to electric brakes, and they have a kit that they said should work, but they dont have the correct wheel bearings, so I would have to track those down. Plus the hydraulic set up should work fine if I can get it to work. Also I already have a brand new set of wheel bearings for the stock set up. Brian

Brian, we have repaired several surge brake systems. Every one needed a new master cylinder. Some of the lines were fine, others not. The wheel cylinders can usually be rebuilt (work them rust free, new seals). The fittings can be difficult: there is usually a swivel ell at the master cylinder. Try not to ruin that fitting!
Take the old brake shoe with you and most trailer/frame shops should be able to help you. We didn't have a part #...
