I have a few glass holders that the PO jacked up by removing the glass from the bottom. He bent the tabs out and a few snapped off. What is the best way to replace these without fully dissembling the entire window? Access to drill them out looks good. Access to install the pivot rivet looks good. Access to the rivet that connects to the linkage arm looks good from the front of the rivet but very limited to the back. Any suggestions? These are the holders as shown earlier in this thread:

We had a few problems as well. We wound up taking them to a local glass shop. They turned out wonderful.

I would like to avoid taking it in since I really only have a an issue with a few of the rivets. I'm leaning toward just trying pop rivets even though they won't match. I doubt anyone would notice!

We have found the "don't tell anyone" method quite effective when it comes to the little oddities, glitches, and inevitable mismatches involved in restoring a 52 year old trailer. We'll only notice if you post pictures!

I hear ya. Our Shasta is a bit separated from original so I think we're good! I think the biggest non-original thing is the fully painted interior (not by me).

That window looks awesome! I have been doing everything that has been suggested on the forum and hope mine turn out so well!! Did you use a clear coat on the aluminum, if so what kind/brand?
Thanks!

Sorry, old thread resurrection. Can you share where you got the weatherstrip for the sides of the windows? I'm having trouble finding a suitable strip that doesn't cause the window to bind and not close. Looks like the pile (you call it felt) is quite a bit more flexible in your example photos. Thanks!

That's the product I've been trying to make fit. It's really, really tight. The window won't even get 1/2 way closed, and I'm likely to break the winding mechanism. I may try shaving it down a bit with a beard trimmer, as was mentioned elsewhere.

It depends on the window. Some have a wide enough groove for the VTS strip, some don't.

I put my felt-strips under weights for a day and that flattened them enough to help them slide through the groove.

That and the soaking in soapy water and holding your mouth just right and certain words that we shall not mention on a family channel..... But it is possible. I think it took me a half hour for just one window for that bottom bubble gasket.

The bottom bubble gasket was a major PITA. I cut a small wedge shape at the start, streched it a little, and used WD40. It took a while, wasn't a fan at the time.

I realize this thread is a couple years old, but I'm trying to figure out how to measure the missing windows in my 1961 Shasta 16SC. Right now they have plexiglass covering them. Are the measurements for a 1961 Shasta 16SC different from let say your 1964 Shasta 16SC? If not, do you mind sharing your measurements of the window pane? I have the aluminum frames still...or should I replace the entire frame and glass? Thanks!!!

Take the whole window frame to a glazier and ask the to cut a piece of tempered glass to fit your window. They will know what thickness it should be as well as the width. You can install it yourself. Ask the glazier how to seal the glass to the frame. Good luck!

Thankyou Marguerite.... I have no idea how to navigate blogs. They all seem to be listed by dates instead of content. I get lost in them. Thanks again.

Some are set up with key words that will take you to the post, others not. He seems to be doing pictures that way but not his post. I just went up this thread, saw what that date was and then navigated to April 2010 and voila!
