Has anyone tried to use a Hensley Cub or ProPride weight distribution hitch on a Shasta? Are some Shastas too small for these devices? I will be buying a 14 ft. Shasta in a couple months and am concerned about sway and safety. Will be pulling it with a 6 cyl Toyota Tacoma 4wd extended cab.
Make sure you get a drop hitch if needed to keep the trailer level during towing. If it sways for no apparent reason, no passing trucks etc, try loading it differently. You want more weight in the front of the trailer than the back. Also trailer specific tires help reduce sway compared to car tires. Also towing too fast and side winds can exaggerate or cause sway.
Thanks for your replies, and sorry I didn't get back to the board. Still trying to figure out what to do. Trailer is ready; now we need to get a hitch and everything. I am very concerned about safety and want at least some kind of sway control. I have heard of small trailers overturning without it. I guess I will need a drop hitch. The trailer has a 5-pin connector. UHaul only has a 4-pin. What do you all have? Is a Reese hitch a good idea?
