Hi all.
I just joined and introduced myself in the Introductions section.
Can you help me decode my VIN? V8990 is what I'm able to see.
I believe it's a 1962 SC.
Thanks for the help!

Your Shasta was born in 1961 in Indiana. Is your SC 16' long?

It looks like your Shasta's VIN, 13882B9, should have a C in front of the series of numbers. Based on other VINS, you have a 1960 Shasta that was born in California. More than likely in Van Nuys. Also, based on the other Shasta Models being built during that time frame from that California plant, I would guess that you have an Airflyte. Did I guess right? What model do you have?
Hope this helps, Ross

thekmrs,
Looks like you have a '65 Shasta. What is the length, bumper to tongue and could you post a picture or two? This would really help with identifying what model you have.

Hey Dusti,
I went back and found a posting you made with your Shasta and here's the info about your VIN.
Your Shasta 19' Starflyte was born in Leona, Pennsylvania in 1973.
Starflytes were built in 2 sizes. The 17' had only one axle and the 19' had two axles.
Hope this helps.

I just purchased a 1972 Shasta 16sc. I can't find the vin except a label that states "This insignia remains property of the state of CA....." Any one know if that is it? Thanks in advance.

So sorry for the late responses.
charla0604, You have a 1962 Shasta, born in Indiana. If I had to guess, I would say that you have an Airflyte. A few pictures would help, as well.
fluxjmr, Not too sure where you found that label, but the VIN# is usually found on the tongue, either stamped into the tongue frame or stamped onto a VIN plate that is tack welded to the tongue.

Hi Ross: I don't have my Shasta on site, but I'm picking it up from Fletcher's in New York state. Based on a pic, the VIN appears to be P22879. Here is a link to several pics: fletcherstrailersales.com/1961%20shasta%20bennys.htmlI'm going to take an educated guess and say born in Pennsylvania in 1958. Am I close? Thanks for the great help!!! Best, Rob

Hey Rob,
Nice looking Shasta. Airflyte, maybe? I believe that the Vin you posted in incorrect, because it would be a '73 and the pictures of your Shasta are NOT a 70's body style.
The earliest VIN that I have for the Pennsylvania plant is 1963 and that Vin is P11**, a 4 digit number. The 5 digit Vin's started in mid '68. Not real sure when this plant pushed out it's first Shasta.
Sorry that I couldn't be of more help.
Ross

I would really need the Prefix Letter, but here is what I have, based solely on the 4 digits:
If your Shasta was born in California, "C", it would be a '58 Pennsylvania, "P", it would be a '68 South Carolina, "S", it would be a '73 Texas, "T", it would be an early '70's Indiana, "V", it would be a '62
Hope this helps and if you find the Prefix Letter, please let me know. I would like to add your Shasta's Vin# to my database.
Thanks, Ross

HI Ross! The letter is completely rusted over but we have a little sign beside our front door that says it was made in California. We were "sold" a 1965 but we are very very happy to have a 58. I guess I will have to change my log in ID:) Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Ross, Haven't had time to create a account and upload pictures, but here is the craigslist add and pics that is still up for the trailer we bought. I was sure we measured it at 17.5' including the hitch. Not delivered yet, waiting for snow to melt on the farm it is on. calgary.en.craigslist.ca/rvs/3628483322.html

We also believe it to be a '58 and not a '65 as it is registered, but what model is it? It has the same layout as a 19' deluxe but that model doesn't appear until '59. It also seems shorter than the 19' but I will go and re measure again.

Looks like a Deluxe to me. Mine was a 1957, so it's possible yours could be a 58. It would have had wings if it was a 58. Also, mine was 18.5 feet long, give or take, not quite 19.
