Did any models have drip rails over the small bunk windows? The biggest leak came down this window on our 66 1500. Looking at putting a drip rail on to prevent this leak again. Attachments:

BTW-that bunk is HEAVY and when I removed it, the latch holes and metal rail support holes were dust. I think the rip in the metal rail support tells a story of some happy PO hunting friends.

Hey Neophyte, I have some drip rails that I salvaged. Your 1500, is that the single louver unit about 18" or so. I can check to see what I have, if that's a close number. I have it stored under the house. I think that they are about 24" +/- I think that I have 2

Thanks pathfinder, it is a 2 louver unit 16 1/2", 24" would be too long, right? Did yours come from the bunk window? Would 1500 bunk windows vary that much?

Neophyte, be sure to re-putty the edge trim on your trailer, too. Often, the putty is dust (or cardboard like) and adds to the leaks.

Vikx "edge trim" aka "J rail" right? The estimated number of putty tape rolls (10) is all inclusive of J rails, windows, drip rails, baggage door, vent covers, electrical cover, what else?

Yes, edge trim=J rail. 10 rolls of putty is more than plenty; most trailers take at least 5...

Good evening, I hope that I am on the same page with this "Drip Rail" thingy.. Any hoot.. I went and checked what I got...Mine is 28" far end to end. But I did find this place on a surf after I came back into the house. Good luck on your quest. That's their pic and they deserve all copyright rules, individual rights and privileges, I am only using their photo as a means, as a plug if you will for their product for sale to the general public including individuals like you and I www.shoprvparts.com/product/14132F/external-drip-cap-formed-ends-punched-mounting-holes.htmlAttachments:

Good on ya, Pathfinder. 20 inches is the shortest length they have. I checked the difference of the other windows and their drip rails, it is 2 1/2 inches. I wonder how funky an extra inch overhanging this little window would look?

EEK! I am with ya, What size and length "out to out" are you looking for? You can cut them, but when you start tig welding Aluminum, so thin? You better have your game on. Your plight is similar to the one I am working with on my bunk/cot window.. It was 13-1/4 ", The length was a odd ball, but when I started working with and around it.. WINDOWS? no problemo. I know how to stick build them now.. no worries. (I just cannot make them larger, Only smaller ) In the Shasta factory, I imagine it was like someone wanted to sign their name on a model and date it and threw these odd ball windows in.. the rest of the window sizes are the same +/-. Get some aluminum foil and a bit of duct tape. Play with it and try to imagine what it will look like... Get a length and try it all from there.. post script: Do you have holes in the skin above the window? Length? I think that the eye brow rails that I have came off a 19 inch window.. Mmmmm.

Ha! The aluminum foil and duct tape trial fit is exactly what I need to do to visualize the size. (I will have to wait to see until all the kings horses put it back together again, though) I did stack all the drip rails together (except the long back and front windows) and was a bit surprised they were all the same length except one. Since I have measured for curtains and know the kitchen window isn't as wide, I wondered why the drip rail would be longer. Since I followed the forum advice and labeled everything that came off (took pictures, too) the surprise was finding out the longer one was for the door. Now, looking at the before frame off pictures to see if the longer size looks funky on the kitchen window. There were no holes for a bunk window eyebrow. Checked when I measured the space for one, thinking it might be too close to the roof line/ J rail. I'm thinking the best size would be no longer than 18-19'' and your 19" window probably had a 21 1/2" one. When I had all the windows in a kit built log home replaced, I discovered the wide window trims covered up large spaces around the old windows. Should have taken that trim off before having the guys measure for the windows. Took lots of shims and insulation stuffed in to make the new windows fit.

Yeah... They might not have placed the drip rails above these smaller windows and openings. Be carefull, you might get "Drip Rail" fever. (lol) Every window, ports thru the skin, hatch access and wheel well will have a drip rail over it. It's light sconces in ones house. It's Madening..

I had to cut down one cause had to replace over the front of mine and they for some reason skip from 78-84 and I needed 81 I think....so I spliced one using jb weld. It's holding up fine so far, though I have to say it's not real pretty close up.

This is where I found my eyebrows www.rvshop.com/search.asp?keyword=drip+cap&search=GO They look pretty good and carry most sizes....though there's a gap in teh size needed to span the front window correctly. Many RV/trailer places carry drip rail. Not sure what you are refering to when you say glazing strips if you are talking about the various hehr seals and gaskets....I think VTS is the best source.

I ordered a 68" bought a drip rail from tmhardware.com, and it arrived today. (They offer a wide range in lengths.) I like it. It doesn't have the curvy shape that the VTS ones have, which I guess is more vintage, but it'll look good above my '64 Frolic's rear window. (I had ordered one from rvparts.com and it was just like the VTS ones, but it arrived bent and cracked. Trademark Hardware packed theirs much better.)
