well today I dealt with this mess, someone used an aluminum foil type tape to seal the compartment door shut since the latch was gone, it was horrible and the glue must have been really good because it was really stuck.

Got the baggage doors on today. You guys were right. They do hang straight down. Owner want's a limit chain or something on it still though. I used chrome hinges. I don't paint the main door hinge or any other hinges on my trailers because the paint just chips. So I either polish or wire brush them for a satin finish. Still need to install the locksets.

mobiltec, is that the original design with the flip down and the birch panel inside? I like it.

Mobiltec, we didn't watch them this time for the screen door - we had the old one to go by. However, we have used them more times than I can count for just about everything else. The baggage door looks great!

I just disassembled the doors and replaced both the paneling and the outside metal skin. The edge framing is all original. I also replaced the aluminum hinges with chrome ones. I have new keyed alike nickle plated locksets for them. Next week.

The baggage door looks great! Well you did such a good job I thought maybe you had LOL.... I really like the larger piece at the bottom. (kick plate) Now it needs some of those scrolly things for the bottom half of the screen. Thanks on the baggage doors. I figured they needed to look good even though they are hardly ever seen.

Thanks! I really treasure a compliment from you - the trailer "god." I'd love to have those "scrolly things" at the bottom. I reposted a pic of a screen door like that on my pinterest board. I don't know how you go about doing it.

My friend and mentor Bob Ross has the machine that makes the "scrolly things" now. Just give me the inside dimensions and I will see what I can do... I've been wanting to play with that thing a little anyways and plan on puting them on my Shasta door as well.

This is a bending jig. He puts the metal in there which is just some kind of lightweight flat half inch wide metal and bends up a bunch of pieces that are in like S shapes. They rivot together and the parts that come in contact with the wood sides and bottom get screwed in. He's pretty busy right now what with spring coming and he also has to put Pismo together so it could be a while but let me see what I can do.

Metal looks great! I worked on mine for a while, but didn't get the results I wanted, so I'll try it your way (eventually). Other stuff to get done first!

Mobiltec - What did you spray on the brows at the beginning? Was it rouge of some kind? Also what type of wheel did you use? Short bristles? Hamlet looks good for now, but I'm thinking ahead a few years when the old aluminum shows oxidation. Thanks!

I am REALLY wanting to try out sharkhide on my aluminum, if it is half as good as it claims, it will keep the aluminum looking new or years. sharkhide.com

Hamlet looks good for now, but I'm thinking ahead a few years when the old aluminum shows oxidation. Thanks! The wheel is just a normal medium soft laminated cloth wheel. You can get them at any auto detailing supply house. The stuff I sprayed on there was an Acid and water mix. I use 50/50. You can also get that stuff at any auto detailing supply store. It's used for cleaning mag wheels but it loosens up all the corrosion on the aluminum. I spray twice, let it foam up and sit for about 3 or 4 minutes and then rinse well with hose water. There is a tutorial for polishing windows where I use the same buffing wheel and acid and I actually show the brand of acid in that video. This is a 6 part video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sSuY-WbP5c
