I have read all kinds of info on ice boxes - filling bottles or jugs with water and freezing them, picking up block ice at a convenience store . . . but can't locate anything where someone has mentioned using blue ice in their ice boxes. Anyone out there tried this with any luck?

Online retailers like Amazon, Campmor, REI, Bass Pro, cabelas and I am pretty sure Walmart.

But they work okay in an ice box? I just found it unusual that no one has suggested it - really new to all this, so I didn't know if there was a reason it wasn't suggested for an ice box.

I have used it, I got the ones shaped to fit kind of around a can, kind of a PITA, you have to remember to freeze them before you go, then if you are gone more than 8-10 hours, they warm up, then you have no more, and it will take a couple of hours and a freezer to freeze some more, plain ol' ice from the convenience store (or ice shack) is easier in my opinion.

Good to know – can't decide if I want to purchase a small yeti cooler solely for ice and then bought a couple of blocks of blue ice, and just kept rotating them in the yeti, if that would suffice for the icebox? I am truly new to all of this, so forgive me if this is a stupid question.

If you don't need a lot of room in the fridge, gallon milk bottles - filled with water, and frozen solid - will last for several days. And then you can either drin k the water or just dump it. And toss the bottles, if you don't want to carry them around. Not ideal, but it saves a lot of money and lasts longer than a bag of ice, with no drippy mess.

THat's the problem with the blue ice packs. They don't last any longer than water ice, and when they're done, you have to keep track of them, clean them off, re-freeze them, etc. We go for either homemade or store bought ice blocks. I found a mold that does them just fine. We have also done the milk jugs, but use 1/2 gallon as it's easier to get more than one into the ice tray.
