Hi All, I have several small pieces I would like to have rechromed, and thought maybe sending them off to a plater on the web would be better than dealing locally (very few platers around here) Has anyone sent off any to be done? Any recommendations? Each website of course is going to post pics of nice work, but I would rather hear it from one of you whether or not a site does good work. Thanks!!

I have contacted a couple that are local, they either would not do just a couple of pieces or were crazy high priced, let me know if you find a good place. I got some stuff i wold like chromed as well.

There is a shop that keeps advertising on the Atlanta Craigslist. I think its in North Carolina. They must need work if they are using CL. I don't know anything about them, but you could try them.

No matter where you take it, good chroming just isn't cheap. The final product is gonna have more to do with the condition of the piece you are having done than it will with the shop you send it to. Sure, there are shops out there that can make anything look good, but they are few and far between, and that restoration work will add $$$. I'd happily recommend the place I used, but the last time I used them I was less than happy.

I have powder coated a bunch of stuff and it turned out amazing. They have chrome also...is this an option for you? The powder coat chrome looks good in my opinion and its weatherproof!!

I just sent out my license plate light and grab handle to Browns plating in Kentucky, the two parts cost $113. I figured that will be cheaper than finding high quality replacements on eBay. I'll let you know how they came out sometime this week when I get them back

Today I received the parts that I sent out for chrome. I have to say I’m very happy with the quality of the re-chrome and with the company who did the work. Originally I was quote a price for $113 to rechrome a license plate light and a grab handle. I sent two grab handles and told him to just chrome whichever handle he felt was better to work with and ship the other back. When I sent the parts I also mentioned that I couldn’t remover the glass lense from the light. A couple days later the owner call to confirm the price and told me he could work with the light with the lense in it. The next day he called again, one of his guys dropped the light and put a slight crack in the glass. The owner was very apologetic; he offered to chrome both handles and not charge for the light. Bottom line, I paid $90 ($75 chrome $15 shipping) and now have two beautiful Bargman handles and the light also came out great. They got the lense out of the light; I just spun the crack to the non-visible area, so not a problem. Brown Plating in Paducah, KY did the work, their turn around is 5-7 days. Their chrome looks awesome and they made things right when there was a problem. I would use them again. brownsplating.comBefore After

My suggestion is if you have any street rod cruise-ins or shows go and find the guys with a lot of extra chrome and ask them where they got it. They may know of a cheap local place and you can see the quality of the work.

I have been restoring antique gas pumps and soda machines for nearly twenty years now and I have used Speed And Sport platers in Houston many many times without disappointment. We are having some Shasta parts done by a local guy in Baton Rouge called The Chrome Man. If you watch the Discovery network show Sons Of Guns, he is the guy who does the chrome for Red Jacket firearms. Having two rusty baby moons and the Shasta emblem redone, so I will keep y'all informed as to how these pieces turn out.

The Chrome Man in BR called to say our emblem and baby moons are done. Will try to go get them within next few days and will post photos. We have not used this shop before and wanted to see how his work was before committing all of the chroming work on Tallulah Belle to one source. I'll post photos here and let y'all be the judge...

Ok here you are. I apologize for the bad lighting, but I cannot find the tripod right now. The emblem and baby moons are amazing!! We did not have the chevron drawer pulls or the Bargman light rechromed, but I wanted to put all the collected Shasta bling in one photo. We will have the Bargman door latch and the grab bar rechromed by the same source. If anyone would like info as to the contact info of the business that did this work, PM me and I will share it with you. We are happy with the outcome, the pricing was in line with other chrome shops and it is local (for us) as well as being quickly completed.
