Our 1968/69 Shasta "Stella" has gallons of Silicone around the windows.. We will be removing them and reinstalling them as we go... My question is the aluminum, do we polish them (how) or do you repaint them (with what).. I would appreciate any information you guys have..
thanks

Welcome to the board, I vote polish, as for how, check out some of the areas here, paint polish exterior finishes, or the windows, screens, rock guards area, lots of good info, in short for textured finish nothing is easier than steel wool, works great and is quick, for a higher shine, a buffing wheel and polish.

I prefer to clean them with 00 Steel Wool and lacquer thinner. Then I use dry 00 steel wool to remove any film residue and buff with a clean cloth. This will give them a clean satin finish, without the pain of buffing them to a high shine with aluminum polish.

I don't envy you removing all the glop... Been there.
Depending on the situation, sometimes it's acceptable to paint the window frames. I've used Rustoleum hammered silver on crusty window sills. (after sanding as smooth as possible) It really seals the sill and prevents it from chalking up again. Another thing to paint might be the side mechanisms. Some are just too rusty and ugly to polish.
We usually polish the exterior window frame, looks so nice.
