I bought a 1967 Compact the 2nd week in April. It looked really good from the outside. Nice paint...Really clean and it still had its wings! I was so excited that I let my heart overwhelm my brain. It would have been nice if I had checked the roof for sag and the rear of the trailer for the same. But I did not...
So, I get the trailer home and the first night there we get a little rain storm. I guess the guy was keeping the trailer under a shed for a reason. He said that he had not noticed any leaks in the roof. I certainly noticed the leak around the vent so out comes the tarp. At least I caught it before it made a massive mess. It looks like the previous owner had problems with leaks and rotten roof supports and kinda fixed it. Needless to say, it was not sufficient.
First task--Pull the roof panels down and fix the roof supports. I plan to use 2X4s that have been cut on a bandsaw to have a 1-1/2" crown and 3/4" on the ends.
The big problem...How to get the cabinet over the stove off of the wall. It looks like it may be attached with screws from the outside? Does anyone know if this is correct?
Second task--The tail of my tin can is sagging. The walls are hanging below the floor joists. I really wish that I had checked this out before I bought this little jewel. I am sure that I will have to replace all of the bottom half framing.
The 2nd big problem...Should I attempt the rear end repair from the inside or the outside? My wife likes the paneling so I would like to save the period panels.
I have started demolition and hope to be camping later this year.
I would post pics but with the forum in flux I am afraid to.
Cheers.
