Hello to all, New on the site and thought I'd post up pics of my recently
completed renovation on my 72 Shasta LoFlyte. I purchased this trailer
last July 1, 2012 for $400 and while she was solid she needed plenty of
repairs and tlc, once completed I took her up to the Mountains outside
of Beaver Utah where my pups and I enjoyed a month of bliss Lake side at
10,000 feet. I did all the work myself over the last 30 days, working
every day, 10 to 12 hours daily. The trailer had the original dark wood
paneling throughout and while it was in good condition... it was just
plain dark and boring in there (as evidenced by the before pictures also
attached!)
I started by removing the old flooring, cabinet doors and drawers. I then
installed a new subfloor and began priming and painting all the cabinets
and seat bases "Forest Green", followed by several coats of "Perfect Peach"
on the walls. Once this completed it was time for the custom touches and it
began with the idea that this is my mobile cabin and should look like one!
First I decided to turn the exterior bathroom wall into an aged wood outhouse
along with my Rod and Reel Lantern Hook, then I painted all cabinet
doors and drawers white and applied the woodgrain technique with
Colonial Maple stain. I then installed the wood laminate flooring and
began construction of the stove backsplash out of 1/8" Luan plywood,
styrofoam, mortar mix and paint. I started gathering decor items to add to
the Cabin Illusion however, something was missing... a fireplace! I
searched for a prebuilt unit however, couldn't find one that would fit
in the space between the Sofa and Dinette.
After scouring the Internet I finally found the Comfort Zone space heater/electric
fireplace as an open box item on Amazon for $20! As it turns out my
neighbor had one and I was able to borrow it to build my Fireplace
surround, I built it out of scrap 1 x 2's, 1/8" Luan, Styrofoam, Mortar
Mix and several different colors of Acrylic paint. The fireplace is
quite nice but had no sound?! so... I downloaded 1 hour of real
fireplace sound onto my android and installed speakers in the fireplace
surround... awesome!
Last but not least, last years sewing classes
and my new computerized Brother Sewing Machine were put to work making
new curtains. I would like to point out however, that I call this
Manping and the pups and I are headed to Utah again
for two months of peace and tranquility very shortly :-) My apologies to the
Shasta purists however, had this had the lighter solid wood paneling I would
have gladly worked with that ;-) Here's the link to all the pics
