I think I'm finished with demo (fingers crossed) and plan to start replacing bad wood with good this weekend. My question is, what material should I use? Pine, 1 x 3, fir..... So many choices and I'm not sure what was used originally. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated and I'll do my best to share pix & pass the knowledge on to others further on down the road.
Peace,
Tom

Peace, Tom Pine is what Shasta used originally, if you buy diamentional wood from a big box store ie: 1x2 it will not be 3/4" thick it is actually closer to 5/8". This seems like a nominal differfance until you go to insulate! Save yourself some trouble and buy it at a real lumber yard. Some members have even bought 2x4's and ripped them down to the proper thickness, you can get four 1x2's out of one 2x4.

Keel,
So go to a real lumber yard, get 1 x 2 pine and then using 1" insulation should be no problem. Right?
thanks

So a 1x2 rough is actually 3/4" by 1 3/4"(1 1/2" sometimes) surfaced. A 2x4 is actually 1 1/2"x3 1/2"! You'll have to use 3/4" insulation.

Sorry bout that keel, supposed to be cool, darn auto spell thing. :-) thanks, I'll start making my list and go get the right stuff. Had planned on using 1" foam board insulation, guess I'll rethink that. I have limited space & tools and am really trying hard to remember as much as I can from wood shop class, more than 30 years ago. :-)
