Capecharlie, does yours have the little cocktail tables that fold out on the sides and latch back up? Do you have a toilet but no shower? Im looking for advice on a few things, one being if anyone has tried to put a shower in the toilet area. I think its too small possibly. Secondly, I'd like to see some pictures if anyone has them. Do you have a heater and if so where did you put it? By the front door by the closet? Mine is titled also as a 62 but I will have to check the sink and mirror to see if it says 61. Intersting.

Mine is down to the chassis now and the rebuild has begun, but looking for ideas along the way. I am currently having trouble with the propane lamp...missing a piece. (the one that connects the bottom hardware to the globe...where the flame comes out....hope it turns out. Is your propane lamp functional? Do you have a heater?

I Have a '63 SCS, is that what your talking about? - with the kitchen and door at the rear? My front door is curbside front and the kitchen is on the other side against the streetside. Its a 16sc according to the title and the layout I have found online. It is kinda fun that they are all similar. Just trying to find someone that has the exact same little tables that fold up onto the sides. I call them coctail tables. haha

Mine was/is a '61, from 1961-64 the 16-S/C remained unchanged. The Astrodome and 16-S/C also shared the same floor plan but the Astrodome had the bunk or sleeping loft out over the hitch. I rebuilt mine without the bunk, therefore I'm the original cutter!! The 16-S/C didn't come with a shower only a toilet, my wife didn't want either so when I rebuilt it those were left out! The 16-S/C/S had a shower but it is a rear door model, out of all the models those are the hardest to find because the door is in the wrong location( H.O.W.)! So your model code breaks down 16-S/C 16' hitch to bumper S/C Self Contained, means it has a toilet, a waste tank, and pressurized water tank.

Sorry, yes my propane light works, Although I doubt I'll ever use it. I do have a heater, I installed a Camco wave 3 , they are safer and more efficient than the old ones. You should check out www.nastyshasty.blogspot.com , go to his rebuild thread and check out his, again it started out as a Astrodome but he added a shower and real full size bed.

My 63SC had the small tables but I ended up removing them and the gaucho bed in favor of a dinette. There was no heater in my trailer but I plan on adding a wave 3 at some point.

The Astrodome and the SC had two different front layouts. One is the dinette with the water tank under the curbside seat with the filler spout on that side. The other is a gaucho, fold out couch with two fold down side tables, and the water tank is under the seat with the filler spout on the street side.

True, but the most common was the gaucho couch in the front. For some reason it seems if you wanted a dinette you'd buy a Airflyte and if you wanted a toilet you'd get the front Goucho in the s/c or astrodome.

Yup we loved the little small dinette tables cause I could imagine having drinks there, etc. but after looking at schweet"s blog and photos..I dunno, I may do the dinette.....better for playing cards, etc. Schweet, I love how yours turned out, I have the boomerang formica ready to go and my colors are a bit different but I love the creativity of what you have done and I am on the way.....!! I am doing the mint green cabinets, retro red powder coated accesssories, the original stove I am restoring and it's a retro red, the flooring is black and white checked.....I am a loving the bed you did schweet...do you have an email I can send you questions every now and again? I am in a quandry if I should keep the happy hour tables or do a full table.. Love what you ALL have done..so envious...Im anxious for mine to be done....

Yep, that's all correct -- gaucho with fold-down tables (and double-length hinged rear table), toilet but no shower, Little Safti heater in the tall closet by the door. See my photobucket site for some pictures, address is in my signature block. I'm skeptical that there's enough headroom in the toilet area for a shower? I'm converting the front gaucho to a dinette, and just finished the dinette bases last weekend. I'll take and post some pictures ASAP.

Capecharlie, I just checked your photos, your making great progress. Did you find a wheel well yet and how did you manage to get the screws out? Also I love the plates and fan.

Capecharlie, I just checked your photos, your making great progress. Did you find a wheel well yet and how did you manage to get the screws out? Also I love the plates and fan. Nancy Thanks! No luck on reasonably priced wheel wells. I'm trying in New Bedford today. Regarding corroded screws: I followed the advice mobiltec offers on his videos: get a properly sized Phillips and whack each screw a few times to get the screwdriver seated, then give it a shot by hand before using a driver. This got about 80% of them out. Vice grips got the next 10% out. The last 10% didn't have enough meat left to even grab with the vice grips . I bought a grabit pro screw extractor kit (pricey at $22) and it worked flawlessly. Check it out, and you've got to take your time and follow the directions (like oiling the cutter head every so often, slow speed on your reversible driver, etc.) My kreg jig has been the most valuable tool so far, but this thing is a close second...

I got my boyfriend the Kreg mini in the little box. He doesn't seem to use it all that much although I think he should. I will invest in the pro screw extractor kit. We have followed Larry's advise and used the whacking the screw head and that has worked on maybe 75%.
If you have luck with the wheel well please let me know!!!
Didn't mean to hijack the thread....sorry

I think there is a problem with the front gaucho in the SC. You can't make the couch to a bed without folding up the tables and the tables appear to be in the way of a canvas cot.

Okay so we have a clean slate...down to the chassis..and my plan was to keep the coctail tables...no room you think? I want a funtional be for one-two teenagers there and we have a 4 year old who is dying to sleep in the hammock when we make it...I like the full table that turns into a bed thing..but the side cocktail tables are so rare it seems...what do you thinK?

Since you are doing a rebuild you are in a position where you acn change the cot brackets on the wall. Just make sure that there is blocking in the wall for the screws and that the cocktail tables don't block the brackets when folded up. If you have a double cot there may not be much room to move the brackets and still have enough room so you may have to modify the canvas abd make it a single cot. The canvas does not go wall to wall. Its about 6 feet wide or 6.5 feet wide. Let me know if you need any measurements as we have a double in the back and a single in the front.

Before the teardown, the tables folded up fine and the wall supports for the cot bars appeared to be okay together. I will for sure ask if we need measurements. Prob. a dumb question, but what weight would the single cot support? My 4 year old is only 42 pounds but I can see my 12 year old son wanting to sleep up there. He is about 85 pounds. Would hate for them to fall on the person sleeping below.

I think since you are doing a full rebuild it could hold more. If it was not a full rebuild it would be dependant on the framing in the wall and if it was rotted. We have the original poles that look like galvanized pipes. They have short wood dowels in the ends to keep the metal from rubbing the walls, the wood sticks out about 1/8" and is hled in by a set screw. I set mine up and tested it by putting most of my weight on two of the poles and I'm 200 lbs. I would guess I had about 150 lbs or more on it. The poles were sagging just a little but it held. Keep in mind lots of movement or bouncing could cause it to fail.
