I'm quite suprised at the lack of traffic on this website. I'm pretty new here but I don't get too many replies on stuff I've posted. There is almost ZERO staff that has checked in, alot of "lurkers" and a bunch of posts that don't get replies. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an attention whore but I belong to some other camper sites that ALOT more welcoming to new members questions. Let me know if I've missed something and may have popped off too soon.

I'm sorry Jeff, What?
You have 5 post including this one, 3 were in one thead that many members including myself commented on. The vin thread is done by fellow member Ross, and checks in once in while, because he has other things in his life more important than decoding vins. I'm sorry but if you don't like it here the exit is to the left, otherwise your welcome here, but do t expect every member on this board to comment.

its not a popular as some other forums like gun or car forums, the Shasta campers are rare, thus fewer members, but the ones that are here are great, it just takes a bit longer here to get replies/help but the forum IS NOT dead.

I will say that the people on here seem more friendly than the other forums I'm on. At least if I ask a dumb question on here I don't get 10 comments telling me to use the search function for example. I do think we could use some more cool photo threads on here tho...hmm maybe I'll start one. I'm on here (and other forums) way too much lol

Alright, alright, I didn't mean to chap anybody's back side with this post. I appreciate the welcomes and the people that have/will help me in my Shasta project. This will be the first takedown/rebuild that we've done so there will be MANY more questions from me.

You`ve popped off too soon...... Regular jobs, 6 children, 9 grand-children, restoring campers and camping, doesn`t leave a lot of time for socializing on the forum for Bo and I. If a member has answered a request for help or questions, then I see no need or reason for another member to answer it again. As far as the lack of staff on this forum, we have a non participating owner and one admin. Vikx does an outstanding job considering how busy vikx is. You can find vikx on here every day, usually around midnight. We can also contact vikx any time should a problem with the forum arise. We`re also very protective of our forum, members and staff. You are very welcome here, but your also very new, so please try to go with the flow until you know us all a little better.

You may want to start a thread in the "members restoration" section. Post pics of the condition of your camper before you start and then progress pictures and you`ll be surprised how quick members are to jump in with help, advice and suggestions.

I thought the answers you got were in order and to the T. Your vin is not the number you found. It will be on the outside of the frame on the curb side. Either on top or on the side. You probably have to get out the wire wheel and drill motor and get down through the paint to find the VIN. Years and years of rust and paint can make the numbers fill in.
Hope that helps.

I did find numbers on the outside of the frame on the door side that reads T-5783. I'm afraid to get too rough in scraping off the paint because the number is very light. I may use some paint remover first and see if the numbers show up alot better. Jeff

I'm guessing we lost about 80% of our threads with pictures attached around the end of April. We lost alot of pictures, content, and fun stuff. After the meltdown some (including myself) are not posting as much as we used to. This time of year posting goes down compaired to winter months when there is nothing to do. Good Luck and have fun. I wondered if it was something my computer couldn't process. Yeah, I didn't think about it being camping season and all. Thanks for the info, Soup!! Jeff

Hey Warpony, Soup nailed it for us. The site was once a booming plethora of info with pictures, diagrams and insightful text. Now? Well, its' kinda wordy epitaph of what once was. It will get better though. For one, it is summer and I for one am out and about more. I was trying to replace all old pics from my "Owner Restorations" bit then figured what's the use. I will use the photobucket routine on any new things that I do though. It's just not as convenient. I have been able to get alot of answers and ideas over the past year from this site. I am sure that you will too. I heard rumors that some of the clan started another forum too. I dont remember what the url was though. Good luck and Welcome.

I've found this isn't a chit-chatty forum. Nothing wrong with that, just different than what I've been used to. But there are very knowledgeable members who are very generous with their experiences, resources, and assistance. About the photos, I offered several times to donate money and take the time to move photos to a hosting site, but was totally ignored. Even by the forum owner in private messages. I can only guess just a frustrating sore subject that no one wants to entertain. But others are helpful to find, post photos to help. Welcome to the forum.

Yes, its a little slower than others, but we are still growing. Its only a few years old. Personally, I like it. I can actually keep up with whats going on and the people here know there stuff and are polite, unless you are a flipper with a bad attitude trying to take advantage of others. Then we realease the hounds!
Its a great group from all over and occsionally we have a rally and get to meet some other members. Its fun trying to match a face to a trailer.

I'm new on this Forum too, but I get every question I post answered, including comments. Just give it time. Everyone on here has been very helpful and very welcoming. I know there was a server problem before that really messed up some content and a lot of stuff is gone, but people are putting it all back up slowly with Flickr and Photobucket.

Well ya gotta do what ya gotta do. If you want to register it you will have to find out what the VIN is. That number you found on the "curb side" is most likely the VIN. And who ever inspects it is going to want to be able to see it. It's just a small area and you can easily cover it up again with a rattle can. If that is already bothering you, wait till you really get into your project....
Does this scare you at all?

Ha!! No, not at all but I'll probably be asking you some questions when I "dig in". I've always built new campers from scratch but never have done a resto. Jeff

Ask questions before you "dig in". I didn`t (first camper), and once I removed the interior paneling, the rear dropped 4 inches on the roadside . Not fun jacking it back up to get T`s inside, alone, female and OLD lol.

The best advice I can give to the people diving into a restore is, Save Everything! I referred back to many of the old parts including old birch panels. I also saved most of the original framing material and repurposed it elsewhere.

I've had to go back and look at before pictures, on several occasions. Have fun and best of luck with your first restore!
