Hello fellow Georgians,
I've only been able to find 8 of you...are there more? I was thinking it would be great to get together at a GA state park late Oct or early Nov...is anyone else interested? Katstar and Harrison429 are both available for a Oct 22 or 29 or Nov 5 weekend. Anyone else? Email me and let's see if we can coordinate something or vote for a date when you respond.
Thanks, Robin (harrison429)
(I'm not trying to restrict this to members from GA only, it's just that I want to camp in GA due to time limitations)

Hi Robin.
We're in GA but still in the process of getting a trailer. If we have one by then I think we would be able to arrange a trip around that time. I'll keep you posted.

Hi Kristyl...I didn't have you on my list so that makes 8 now. I thought 8 before but that was before I knew 2 members were married and they only count as one. haha Even if you don't find one in time you can still join us and get to meet your fellow members. What city do you live in?

I more familiar with boondocking than I am with state parks but I think a state park would be good for our gathering. I'm really only familiar with Red Top Mtn State Park but do think it would make a nice gathering place since it has the lake which makes a nice view and is good for kayaking/canoeing. But if people are familiar with other state parks and have good experiences, chime in. Maybe everyone should vote for a date and a place.

allatoona.sam.usace.army.mil/Allatoona%20recreation/camping.htm This campground is close to RedTop Mountain State Park. It is called McKinney, an Army Corps of Engineers campground which is also on lake Allatoona. I believe you can reserve specific campsites here, which would allow vintage trailer rally participants to be grouped together. RedTop mountain State Park only lets you reserve the correct sized site for your camper but then you have to ride around looking for an available site. We would also like to participate in a Georgia Fall gathering if one is planned in this area.

Okay I did verify that you can reserve a specific site # when you call 1-877-444-6777 or use their website www.rec.gov for McKinney campground. I plan on going to the campground this weekend to pick out an area by the water that I think we'd like before I make a reservation. I'll let everyone know by Monday which sites to shoot for to try to keep us together. Anything else to consider? Just let me know via email as it's quicker/easier to keep up with than the forum. harrison429@comcast.net robin

Okay, I've picked out a nice section for our gathering, sites 87-92, with site 86 a bit further away from the rest. The area is all on the water; though it will be Nov when the water is down, not gone, just down, with a marina sort of across the way. Bing map shows the sites better than the campground map that is online. I've already registered our site #90 for a Nov 3rd arrival and Nov 6th departure. Katstar & Clayton are registering for #89. The sites create a nice x-large culdesac so we'll be able to hang out together when we want. I'm also planning a Saturday night cookout for the group but we can discuss that more as the time draws near. I'm so excited! Keep us all posted when you make your reservations. and Kristi and Neilandramona...Mckinney is beautiful, good call! I'm going to post another pic of the campground sites from further away...these pix are from bing. Attachments:

Here's the pic of the campground further away. We will be on water, it will just be a bit further out as Allatoona goes down for the winter. Attachments:

The Fosters have reserved site 86, at McKinney on Nov. 4+5, for their 1968 Avion. Anyone interested in a vintage trailer awning is welcome to stop by and see the small demonstrator awnings, that I will have on display.

Me and my '69 1400 are in Bluffton, SC just over the Savannah boarder if anyone comes this way. I've only towed her home, so when it gets cool- I'd love to have an outing. Based on my car's gas mileage when pulling- I shouldn't go far or I'll be broke.

Were planning on coming too. At the moment our 1970 Shasta Compact is pretty stripped for its rebuild but hopefully by November it will be done. At least done enough to camp with. I'll call to reserve a site tomorrow and update on here once that's done.

If more Shastas want to come over into loop 93-101,with the Airstreams, feel free. We can coordinate activities between the loops. So far an Ugly Sweater contest, A Polar Bear Plunge, and A Doggie Parade have been suggested, plus bring a used Hard cover book for a book trade table. Sites 98,99,101, and 108 are already reserved.Sites 102-104 are 40' sites for large trailers. Expanding into 105-117 as needed. So, be in search of the ugliest sweater you can find, bring a swimsuit, a book to trade, an outfit for you four legged friends or dog treats to share.

We're very excited about the Shasta gathering, I'm glad to see a few folks have reserved spots. It looks like five sites have been reserved by VSTF members so far. I am curious about the other two sites reserved in our circle... Did anyone from the forum reserve 87 or 88 and not post about it?

I'm from Roswell and a new member searching for a Shasta. If our schedules allow, can DH and I come too despite not having a vintage trailer yet? We have a camper van and would stick out like sore thumbs, but would love to meet GA Shasta owners.

Everyone on the forum is welcome whether they have their shasta yet or ready yet or even if they don't have one. You can also always just drop by and meet everyone is person. We'll be having a saturday late afternoon/early evening cookout for sure but no definite time for that as of yet. Currently this is who will be there: 86 Kristi 87, 88 unknown 89 Katstar & Clayton 90 Harrison429 91 Flyingham 92 Offpringin Unfortunately our loop is full but there is still plenty of space at the campground and if enough people show more interest perhaps they can start a second loop nearby...just keep everyone posted so future campers will know where everyone will be.

offspringin, I wouldn't say this gathering is an 'organized' event, in that there is no official chairperson or anything. Harrison429 and I discussed the idea of trying to get some local VSTF folks together for a weekend...the idea was to plan for an informal gathering so we can get to know each other, see each others' trailers and enjoy the fall weather, in a campground that was somewhat close to home for all of us. We thought it'd be nice to have a cookout on Saturday night. Details have not been worked out, we all need to chime in on that. Personally, I think it'd be good if everyone could contribute something food wise, but we should probably coordinate closer to the date. Other than that, no events/activities have been planned (that I know of) by VSTF folks. There is a group of Airstreamers who will be there for the weekend as well. The activities you mentioned are things that the Airstream owners have planned, and my impression is that we are welcome to join in. They have reserved sites in an adjacent loop of the campground. I'm sure we will be visiting all of the vintage trailers in the campground that weekend. Kat

Hi flyingham,
I'm guessing some sort of pot luck cook out could be the way to go. Personally, I don't know what the facilities are there...assuming there are grills, one idea is that everybody could bring whatever they want to grill and contribute a side dish or something. Or it could be more organized than that, it all depends on what folks want to do, if there are vegetarians among us, etc. Whatever the case, it seems to me that we should all get together on the specifics for Sat. night closer to the date, maybe in mid to late October. That leaves a couple of months for everybody to come up with spectacular ideas to put forth to the group. I don't know about everybody else, but Clayton and I are pretty hard core into cooking, and big on the grill. I know we'll be putting some thought into it between now and then, and hopefully everybody else will too. Glad you're coming!
